Breaking color temperature down into 3 different styles of shot: Recreation, Modification and Exaggeration. By thinking about most any shot in this way, you may be able to better visualise and implement the desired visual language of the shot/scene/film you're shooting; Recreation allows us to create something very realistic, right down to how a certain location looks in reality at a certain time of day. Modification allows us to add temperatures into a scene that exist in reality, but don't necessarily exist in the space we're shooting. Exaggeration lets us create a combination of temperatures that we might not ever see with our own eyes - but still exist. This is just one aspect of what can contribute toward a cinematic feeling - check out the other episodes in the Lighting for Cinema A - Z series to learn more about what makes cinema feel a certain way: kzbin.info/aero/PL_dDUxn1Y2e1SJ_Q2H96godCiNSCFvIqI&si=drpJ9zgsYfRRyFOJ

I would argue that convolutes the point of the explanation. He references daylight 5600K and seems to set a black ambient exposure, so the only light he gets is the light he sets - and therefore has complete balance control over. You can assume his camera white balance is 5600K. Incidentally this is what I prefer to leave my (photo) camera set to at all times, even in changing ambient conditions, because I intend to capture what I see. When I use strobes or lights, I use those to balance, too.

Thank you for the detailed setup for recreating midday lighting. It isn't talked about as enough as compared to dusk/dawn or lighting for a night scene. For sure, it's can be really tricky to figure out because of that lack of conversation around it! Superb and inspirational as always. I can only echo the other comment that your content is perhaps one of the very few that I don’t’ watch and x2 speed. And invariably watch more than once to ensure full understanding. May I ask one question; historically when using the BMPCC series of cameras under such dark conditions what is your typical ISO value? - I read divided opinion on this. I understand the dual ISO and noise floor arguments. But I also recognise that sometimes it could be counter intuitive to choose an ISO give more dynamic range in the shadows. Then requiring varying levels denoising in post and black levels in the grade. Thanks and keep up the great work.
