I dont think people talk about enough just how well Matt portrayed the difference hundreds of years in this body did to his mind and countenance. When we first meet eleven he's so childlike. But near the end of his cycle he's very very worn and heartbroken. This is just my opinion but I believe that his experiences and relationships with Amy, Rory, and River were unlike any other companionships he'd had. Especially River, but that goes without saying. Losing them really broke him, and Matt shows that so well. I honestly dont know how people can speculate how much the doctor loved River in particular. I'm in the middle of rewatching now and there's such a stark difference between his first encounter with her after the library and here. And the episode where they first meet the silence as well. The impossible astronaut i believe. He is fond of her spunk, sure, but he makes it clear he doesn't trust her back during those times. Here, he trusts her with his life. He speaks of her whenever he can, and so reverently. And it's almost too painful to bear for him, knowing she's gone. There's a lot of their relationship we dont see but is still implied. While she spent her days in prison they shared their nights. All the dates he took her on. Hundreds of years worth. I saw a comment like this once and it said something along the lines of this: he knew from the beginning that she would one day be a person of great importance to him. He also knew he would lose her. But despite his best efforts to push away his future with her, he fell in love with her anyway. Man, I just think this is one of the greatest and most tragic love stories ever put on screen. It's so beautiful and so sad. And honestly wouldn't have been possible without Matt, and Alex as well. So so underrated, their love story.

Oh god, I didn’t even hear that tiny ‘sorry’ at 0:32 until now, he’s apologising to Clara for crying. This scene is just a underrated tear jerker. The way his hands tremble and his voice quivers as he just seems to be begging Clara to tell him that it was a mistake and the Great Intelligence didn’t say Trenzalore breaks my heart. There are many reasons as to why the Eleventh Doctor will always be my favourite and Matt Smith’s acting makes up half of them.

Series 7 was so uneven in terms of quality, but the two things it did better than almost any other series were Matt's brilliant, brilliant performance and Murray Gold's best score ever. Between this number and the Long Song (Rings of Ahkaten speech), this may be the best musical score on TV period.

Heaven Sent was absolutely incredible, albeit immensely disturbing if you take it seriously. Don't know why that was deemed acceptable for a supposedly family television show. Hell Bent had its moments but was a flop. The mythical hybrid turned out to be an insubstantial matter of interpretation. Clara gets semi brought back in a way that supposedly endangers the space time continuum, but has no real consequences whatsoever. Reaffirming that they can hit the reset button with anything they want. The Doctor who supposedly lost his mind and moral compass (which was supposed to heighten the stakes of the episode) didn't actually go that far at all. He exiled (rather than killed) Rassilon and the High Council, which Othilda calls cruel and/or cowardly, even though they actually were responsible for the war that threatened all of creation. The new actor for Rassilon was so much less evil and powerful looking than the last one. He punched some guy. And he forced the same guy into a regeneration, which actually did work dramatically, but still... Also the return of Gallifrey wasn't even the focus of the episode, despite it being the culmination of the central plot arc of the revived series. And Lady Me wasn't all that necessary, despite maybe sorta being the hybrid. There were emotional bits that did work for me, which I'll tell you if you want. I also realize that Doctor Who has never been that serious or internally consistent, but this was particularly bad. What did you think of the two dude?
@Noah-jj5yr8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, he wiped his memories in order to "atone" for his "going too far," except it was more like losing a coin flip than "atoning" for anything. Also he had originally intended to wipe Clara's memories to keep her safe from the Time Lords, who can apparently zero in on her mental imagery of him. But since he didn't wipe her memory, do they get her now? She did announce her plan to return to Gallifrey, but rather than being properly brought back to life, she now has an indefinite amount of "wiggle room." The diner was the new Tardis modeled after 11's diner. But yeah that worked. And Clara in the waitress outfit was bangin'. I mean more bangin' than usual. There were parts of the episode that worked for me emotionally, if you try to ignore how terrible the plot is. It showed blatant laziness and sloppiness, as opposed to the normal creative liberties of a brilliant but flawed show that revels in weirdness and silliness. Heaven Sent was, once again, incredible. How did the same writer do both?

All coming to an end as the Doctor has to face his grave at Trenzalore. The greatness of the timelords snuffed out by his failure. I think thats why he is crying, not because he is going to end but in a way, the last flame of Gallifrey is as well. So he runs to his love, the TARDIS, the last surviving child of Gallifrey.

I defineitly think smith is the superior actor in general(hell he's one of my favorite actors in general). Tennant was an amazing doctor though, he was just given a lot of melodrama by davies writing sometimes, you want to see Tennant at his best watch waters of mars and Midnight, the latter has a scene which shows just how scared 10 can be despite being possibly the most self rightous and cocky doctor.
@SaintsBro2178 жыл бұрын
+Mayo Tango131 Subtlety absolutely was a forte of Tennant. Did you watch his eyes in 'The Waters of Mars'? They go from bright and hopeful to cold and dark, his lips go from smirky and proud to condescending and aggravated all within one little bit in the Timelord Victorious scene. Even in Midnight, when he asks "What was her name?" and the guy goes "I don't know." you can just see the grief in Tennant without him having to say anything. I think you need to rewatch his series.

I’ve seen people shit on Matt Smith because he’s not as sexy as other celebrities, but holy shit is it undeserved Growing up and watching his episodes as a preteen I never realized how immaculate his acting and performances was He’ll always be remembered as the Doctor but it pisses me off that people don’t acknowledge his talent I’m still livid Disney for snubbing his role in The Rise of Skywalker, bad movie or not, Matt would’ve been engraved into everyone’s minds after watching his performance

There’s something about Matt smiths lines in this series that gave the doctor depth we hadn’t seen since Christopher Eccleston.

I wasn't so keen on Matt Smith when he become the Doctor. I think it's like that for a while at first. When dr who rebooted I didn't think anyone would be able to be as good as Christopher then David. I think it's because we become so attached to them and anyone new takes time. One of the best things about Matt was his facial expressions and the ability to convey emotions. Man do I miss these moments.

I like how the TARDIS can make it's own decisions and throws fits to show disapproval, big exploding and sparky fits.

I love his look of disgust at 2:17. It's as if his death is the most repulsive thought to ever come across his mind.

Because he knows if he dies he won't be able to help save anyone anymore. And when you have lived as long of a long life as he has I'd probably be afraid to die too.

I think it’s like you expect him to be fine all the Time or at least act like he is and when he cried or gets upset it’s horrible because it’s so rare

I don't understand why don't you like Moffat's writing. Yes, because of him so many died but I think his writing is still amazing.

This is very random, but: "The Doctor has a secret he will take to the grave. It is discovered." "It" refers to the Doctor's grave here, but it also could've meant his secret. This is very clever, but now imagine translating this line into a language where "secret" and "grave" have a different gender. Like French. "le secret", "la tombe". I don't know how they did it, there doesn't seem to be a clip on KZbin, but the point is, it must've been difficult. There's a good chance that it got ugly or taken out of context, too. Which makes me very happy to know enough English to understand movies and shows in the original audio.

I really like Peter Capaldi as the new Doctor, he plays him great. But Matt Smith's Doctor is my favourite to this date.

I really felt this scene highlighted how Matt grew in the role, in his first episodes he was a David Tennant tribute act that fine writing and effective companions compensated for but over time he became his own thing and this moment was his own, a moment I don't feel any of the other fine actors that have played the doctor could've matched.
