I have met him a couple of times in Costa Rica. He has a shop there where he is still shaping boards. He is a very nice guy and always stops what he is doing to talk with fans.

His daughter goes to my school. Some of my friends have surfed with him. They say he's a great conversationalist and has all these crazy stories of sort of "behind the scenes" of Endless Summer

103 views and no comments for a legend living among us.....oh well. Congrats to Robert for a surf filled life and for always being part of the scene. He has seen it all.

When I hear the opening chords to the movie it transports me, sometimes in the winter I leave the movie on all weekend and just hit the play button. A special Thanks to You and King Neptune you chose to go surfing brother!

I heard about this movie most of my life...and I just watched it, Mr.August!...Its magnificent!..Its a long story but starts 1975, in Guaruja(Brazil), when I was 6 years old and took my styrofoam surfboard on my little bicycle to Tombo beach in Guaruja to met this american surf...Johnny Rice. The rest is history. Thank you Mr.August, this movie made the hair on my body stand up and brought tear to my eyes..golden memories.

Robert August has left the biggest footprint in surfing. He is a true surfing legend with a amazing legacy to back it up. Peace and Love. Aloha.

Funny he doesn't say anything about Mike Hynson. They both make surf boards, but apparently their paths diverged after the film and he only has contact with Bruce Brown now.

Robert is a class act and a great shaper - I have 2 of boards from his namesake company and they are great rides!

Used to have a house in Tamarindo...I think August has one there, too. My place with three other guys had a blue tile roof..about 200 yards down from the town/village. It has changed a great deal since those times.

Used to watch him shape at his shop on 5th street in downtown HB. It was a cool place to grow up. FF to 2019, shop is long gone and development has ruined surf city.
