In his profile of JFK's cabinet, Dallek, author of the acclaimed biography of Kennedy, An Unfinished Life, presents a team of rivals-a group of brilliant individuals more notable for their differences of opinion than for presenting a united front. Faced with clashing ideals and sharp debates among those he respected, the president couldn't yield to easy answers.

I think it could have gone either way but I doubt it would have been as bad as what wound up happening under Johnson and Nixon. On the flip side I doubt he would have been as successful domestically as Johnson was.

Had there been no Watergate Nixon's rating would have been much higher.

Quite likely. Hell, all he had to do was take responsibility and apologize instead of covering it up and he would have been fine.

If Nixon had won in 1960 we would be leaving in a totally different world. And I think not unjustly that we would see Camelot just under another Kennedy.

Let's face it, Robert Dallek talks about debunking JFK's image as a healthy robust sun-tanned president and faithful husband, but he's the biggest debunker of them all.

Dallek missed mentioning the Space Race, the Peace Corps, JFK's policy toward third world countries, Africa in particular, and he also didn't mention all the Americans he inspired to get involved in politics or some other kind of public service. He also did not mention his brilliant rhetoric, that he gave one great speech after another. .

Dallek also doesn't quite have the Mimi during the Cuban Missile Crisis story right. That was the last day of the Crisis. There is no proof JFK sent Jackie away, Jackie could have decided to leave on her own. Mimi said in her book that nothing happened between her & JFK that night because he was too stressed & worried and she left the next day. I regret having to even explain that but Dallek got it wrong.

You mean like the obvious large Domestic Conspiracy that killed him and Dallek wants to pretend doesn't exist?
