This film is such a triumph, and a tribute to the genre of "witch stories" and New England heritage.. as lifelong New Englander, it really resonated with me. Beautifully done, and the best ending to this sort of film, ever~ Perfect.

I think he means refusing to believe in witches, and his children being possessed. He´s definitely the most religious character in the movie, but he´s also the one who´s saying things like: "This is not a witch, something explainable must be happening here" through the entire film.

I think the point of that was because Ralph’s character moves the family out of the safety of the town due to his own stubbornness and not godliness as we are first led to believe.

Black phillip was my favorite part of the film. Loved the witch. So different from your typical horror movie. Plus the atmosphere works well to bring up feelings of paranoia and anxiety. The symbolism was awesome and the actors were great. The folklore was very accurate as well.

As a fan of horror, I always feel that I get the short end of the stick when I see the trailers for movies, spend the money at the theatre and realize I just saw the best parts of the film in the trailer; everything else was a disappointment. I experienced none of that with this film, which was incredible. I was transported to the 17th century visually and mentally. This film gets inside your head immediately and builds the tension and horror from there. Unlike many others, this film will not be forgettable. Black Phillip was a plus.

@@girayne 100% agreed about the trailers spoiling the imagery, so Even if they are portraying a misleading narrative, the visuals are spoiled non the less. The first time this spoiled a movie for me was Iron Man 3, and while I think it has a number of big problems anyway, I would have enjoyed the movie much more if I wasnt constantly thinking "Ok, so when is the scene with this and that going to happen?". Ever since then, Ive avoided trailers for movies Im interested in like the plague, and it has paid off Immensely, because once in a while I check them after the fact to see if they still do this crap, and yup - just Gotta spoil those moneyshots...

I kinda like how he said that William was a non believer. He obviously was very Christian but his wife, not by words but by actions, was a more genuine believer. She had no doubt and automatically assumed Thomasin was a witch, William had the demeanor of “well let’s not jump to any conclusions” his wife was more intense about her faith than him

pretty sure he never said it either it was masked over or they stitched up multiple lines from the film. pretty sure he said "the wood" multiple times. the same goes for the mother. she didn't actually say "this is witchcraft" in the movie. in that scene she said something like "does this not look like withcraft?"

See, 100% agree and understand Robert's perspective on understanding the darkness. Being a fan of "horror" does not imply a personal interest. However, understanding the darkness, that is not just fictional, but a real active presence in the world, is key to understanding goodness. Have you ever seen those people that shun discussions of "darkness" or "malevolence" while saying "one must only focus on the good and the light"? While watching those very same people, in action, violate every law of "goodness" or Godliness". It is very Lovecraftian and Cthuluish, which, by the way, Dagon, is very real and permeates American culture. It's everywhere you look, such as Starbucks Coffee, and yet those that have no understanding of Cthulu, are blind to its everpresence. Dagon is the enemy of God. It's actually incredibly creepy and frightening, as a well-read fan of horror, and Lovecraft, to see it in every dau Americana. Corn, cows, and Cthulu. Very, very real. Dagon was the god of the Philistines. This image shows that the idol was represented in the combination of both man and fish. The name "Dagon" is derived from "dag" which means "fish." In the King James Version of the the text reads: And he saith unto them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishmen.” kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaLTh6Nve7CCg80 "" miracle 5 123

The move was extremely well done. The acting and costumes were perfect. The mood it captured was perfect. My only complaint is the ending. "The devil wins" is a tired formula and too predictable. I still like the movie. The 2 small children are adorably cute and it adds to both the creepiness and helps humanize this family. Whoever cast this movie should cast every movie made from now on. Eggers is very good with the English language but he speaks like a teenaged girl. Like, like, like, like, like, uh, uh, uh, ya know, ya know. He should present himself like a grown man with a good vocabulary and stop condescending to people. Sorry to scold but I had to. Great movie.
