I've had the honour of fishing with ya in the Subway boat Dave, during the Canadian Open in Kingston many years ago. I learned many things from you but what stuck out the most was your positivity and you don't like cucumbers. During the tournament, you took the time to stop fishing to talk to kids on the dock, gave them spinner baits, show them how to use them and first cast you caught a pike. Although they thought you were Bob Izumi, you made us all laugh and enjoy that time. Thanks for what you do.

The real issue isn't just the chirping-it's the blatant disregard for sportsmanship when competitors move in on the tournament leader during the crucial final days. This behavior isn't just unfair; it tarnishes the integrity of the entire competition. It’s time we start viewing this as unacceptable and demand higher standards of respect and fairness in our sport.

Can't help but feel really bad for Robert Gee given the way the Johnston brothers bullied and did him dirty. I used to like the Johnston's before this year, but when they work so closely together as a team and with their ethics, it's seriously hurting the sport!

Good point, especially considering they have a financial stake in each other’s performance, as they have publicly stated that they share winnings. On one hand, all the anglers are allowed to work together and share information amongst themselves, but when one angler has a financial stake in another angler’s success, they are way more likely to share more information than typical buddies or roommates would.

I was fine with all of it except everyone asking why Gee allowed Trey in??? They were both there for two days before Chris showed up on that spot that weekend. For me it was cool to see all three of them get after it. I don’t know this to be fact but IF the vets felt Gee should leave simply because Chris has made money there before and had a shot at AOY…that is ridiculous. They all had the right to that water and the opportunity to put food on the table. If Gee was Hackney and Hack had a shot to win off that spot I don’t think Chris hits that spot. Just my humble opinion I could be way off here.

Everyone complaining about the last derb have clearly never played at a high level of any competitive sport. If you aren’t chirpin, and playing mind games, and trying to step on the throat of your opponents during competition , you are wasting your damn time and money. All of your favorite fishing/sports heroes were doing it you just didn’t see the coverage because there was none. I love KVD but he was fierce, so was Roland Martin, so was Ricky clunn, Tommy biffle. In other sports Dale Earnhardt , Michael Jordan, dion sanders, Tom Brady , Peyton manning, Larry bird….etc They all ran their mouths and tried to take out their opponents Week after week after week. If we want pro fishing to ever be remotely close to any of the other pro sports, this stuff HAS to be done AND filmed. It draws attention!! It creates fans. In every sport (to use a wrestling reference) there has to be a babyface and there has to be a heel. That’s what draws views. And hats off to bassmaster and Mercer for not editing those parts out. Like it or not bass needs drama, and they need to air every single bit of it. My two cents

Dave, I am truly the definition of a "humper". I have never missed an episode and anything with your name on it, I'm clicking it. But to say this is "not a big deal" is truly a bad take. Rob is at the point in his life where he needs to make a living, he needs to establish his name (and luckily these events might just be bigger for him then winning), but Chris coming in on him ultimately led to him losing out on a 100k paycheck. That is life changing. That IS a huge deal. Respectfully.

I can see both Gee and Chris’s perspective. Both have a right to view the situation their own way. Neither one is 100% right. Neither one broke a rule. Community holes aren’t new. Having more than one boat on a community hole isn’t new. The lake was extremely rough limiting Chris’s options. Had the lake been available I doubt it would have went down that way. If your Plan A,B,C, and D is sitting on a community hole you aren’t going to win most elite events. Also, the initial interaction between Chris and Gee, it sounded both agreed Chris didn’t pull up that close. Gee drifted closer before the cameras showed anything (based on FS1… I didn’t watch website feed)… to which Gee responded “I’m fishing this whole area” I’m sure I don’t have every detail right and someone will correct me. Coming back to this video more than a week after this whole “controversy” with what happened on day 4. Seeing 90%+ of the comments are totally lost and oblivious to the real facts of what actually happened. Gee and the Johnston brothers are actually good friends before this even happened (words straight from their mouths).

Facts and the truth don’t matter on the internet. Those things just get in the way of a good headline. Thank you for watching and seeing through the B.S

I’ve been around PR and publishing my whole adult life and when it comes to revenue - controversy sells (according to my old publisher boss). He would create controversy to sell more magazines.

Dave, when Cory went at Gee on the morning deal I could tell you didn’t love it because I know you have mentioned you like and respect Robert Gee. I was uncomfortable for you in the moment. You handled everything with grace as you always do. Don’t worry one bit. A lot of people come here each week and we know what’s up. No problem with very competitive anglers but am disappointed with the name calling, virgin stuff. Not necessary. When he says virgin I hear I am upset because a 19 year old is kicking my ass. Sorry not sorry. They can be better. Love the derby boys!!! But…we can all do better.

I just read an article written by Rick Clunn on the unwritten rule for the Elites clearly Chris Johnston could care less! If the 50 yard rule was in place Gee wins that tournament! I could care less about the chirping but don’t come in on someone winning the tournament and catch his fish that was shitty! And it felt like Chris was blocking for Corey on Sunday he had AOY wrapped up Saturday! Nice guys finish last! 😀

I would have liked to have seen Gee brought up on stage and given him time to talk prior to bringing up his fish to weigh. Also bass needs to cut off Basstrakk 2 hours early and make it so anglers can’t view Basstrakk until after they weigh in.

The only thing I would say Dave was at Sunday weigh in, you should have talked to Gee prior to weighing his bag because once he weighed in there wasn't time to discuss his tournament.
@factsoffishing2 ай бұрын
@@shauna4981 Sorry that’s how it works. We do not talk to anglers before they weigh there fish because they are not good actors and they often give away the result. It’s always how we have done it. However if you have the lead going into the final day and don’t win you have had several days of Live coverage and plenty of time to thank your sponsors & talk about the tournament. If you notice I actually grab Rob before he exits the stage to give him a chance to talk. Which he really wanted no part of. It’s just the way it works.

By no means do I “live in the gutter”, but what Chris did was wrong and there is no defending his actions. We can all agree to disagree, but zero chance he pulls that if Christie or Hackney is leading and sitting there on day 3.
