Robert Godin - Guitar clinic at Kytary store

The owner and founder of the Canadian company Godin - Mr. Robert Godin - came to Kytary store in person, and introduced us to the production of guitars. Godin also includes the Seagull, Norman, Simon & Patrick and Art & Lutherie brands.
At the end, guitarist Tomáš J Holý performed a unique percussion play on acoustic Norman guitar.

This was absolutely one of the best 1.45hrs I have invested listening to perhaps the first guitar builder I have ever really listened too and I am hitting 65 and been playing guitar since I was 16. Sure over time I have learned to just trust my ears when buying playing a guitar but being an I.T. guy with an inquisitive curious nature I also love understanding the reason behind the theory. I tuned in after just buying what Robert Godin might call Frankensteins Bride i.e. a German Guitar Builder in Erlingen Custom Telecaster shape body in Natural dark wood (possibly Alder) and the neck from a Godin. Hasn't arrived yet but photos looked awesome.

I love these guitars and I love watching Mr. Godin explain in detail the physics of the guitar and the reason behind each of his design decisions. He is so rightly proud of every single component. Seagulls are known for being incredibly well-built, well-crafted -- quality that punches way above its price point. Listening to Mr. Godin explains exactly how and why they are so well-built. I'm almost surprised that he gives away all the secrets of his design decisions.

There is utmost respect for Mr Fender & Mr Paul + many others for what they have done to help us musicians but I'm sick of "label snob ducklings" (corporate$$$$) who call every other fledgling ugly. It is a privilege to own and play your 1998 artisan signature Mr Godin I purchased 26/10/2020 for $2,175 NZ an absolute steal. Thank you.

Purchased an S6 original a couple of weeks ago. I almost bought one 20 years ago but chose not to. I should have bought one then. 3 guitars later I realize It should have been my first guitar. Incredibly passionate and honest music enthusiast more than being a greedy seller, that makes his products very special. Godin products never let me down and now I understand why after watching this great man. I agree with him about everything he says with acoustic guitars but partially on electric guitars. Microphone and pickup comparison is just not correct, one is a photocopy machine that copies what it sees one is a sound generator with the help of the string movement. I will never pay thousands for brands after witnessing many times that a great pickup, good strings and right electronics gives you 99% of that a few thousand dollar guitar in terms of sound. But I agree everything he says about acoustic guitars. Great video, great guy

This guy is mega smart and obviously over decades figured out all the problems guitars have. I believe in him 100%. Aside from sound quality nobody ever seems to talk about how awesome it is to play on a guitar with the least distance between the strings and the fretboard (action). To me thats everything after playing on an ovation acoustic for so many yrs. To be able to play on a guitar that has the action of an electric fingerboard (thinner too) and get the sound of an acoustic is utterly amazing. After putting away the guitars for yrs and playing piano, this makes me decide to go out and buy one of his. I want the sound of an acoustic w/out killing my hands and fingers AND it stays in tune!!!...After watching this video I'm going to buy a Godin A6 Ultra hybrid black and record with it. I looked at all different acoustics out there but this is a dream come true instead. I'm very excited to now know what he knows and get one of his guitars. Thanks Mr Godin-you've put in the time and deserve the respect from all other guitar makers!!

My first acoustic guitar was a Seagull S6 Original and I absolutely loved it. I miss that guitar and every once in a while I get the urge to buy another one. I recently bought a Seagull SWS Maritime CW and absolutely LOVE it. The BEST built and sounding acoustic I’ve ever played and/ or owned. Had a Taylor 410 ce and liked it a lot but had some issues with it. I also have a Martin D35 and love that guitar but I find myself constantly grabbing my Seagull. Anyone on the fence about a Seagull acoustic, it’s always the first guitar I would recommend. Not only are they incredible feeling, sounding and such high quality but they are quite affordable if you compare to any other brand with similar specs.

i just got a 2012 seagull coastline 12 string. extremely happy with it. i have been looking for a left handed12 string for 25yrs. unfortunately they don't make this particular model anymore. so i was really lucky to find it.

Great and informative video ... although from Aberdeen, Scotland I had a chance to live in Calgary for a couple of years (1998 / 1999) and bought a Norman acoustic which was a great acoustic (sounded great in church setting) ... now have a steel string LGXT-SA which is super versatile.... there is a signature Peppino D'Agostino 12 fret to body Seagull acoustic (with a wider nut for fingerstyle) that I would love to be able to try out ... saw Peppino at Lemon Tree in Aberdeen play one live (International Guitar Night gig) ... amazing sounds from a wonderful guitarist ... I have tried out the nylon string with the 4 x modelling microphones built in (think it was in Kenny's Music in Glasgow) and was / still am tempted ... great, innovative guitars, well made .. and affordable.... thanks again for video ... It is very generous to share all that knowledge, but I'm a bit surprised about his argument on not making custom guitars, most of good luthiers can build a guitar that is near the expectations, that does not fail, and with a high crafting quality and a with great sound, so why not a company like Godin that has much more resources, with mention that a custom guitar is mostly built on a base model, so will be not something entirely new, it makes non sens at all.

I'm in love with a problematic godin radiator, not the 2020 relaunched model its like theres a Thompson's gazelle trapped in barbed wire.. I have fret buzz and tuning stability issues. I changed the tuners only to find that wasnthe headstock sports a bar type of string tree which i suspectis catching the strings thevnecknis so invitingfast a comfy ,Im not a great playeris there somewhere in london where some godin approved luthiers know how to service it properly and miracle cure my radiator does one bleed the radiators ?!

So long scale is better for rhythm, and short scale is better for distorted lead, and i guess its what your ear is used to. Im just started notice Godin, guitars, ive Seagul but didnt know it was a Godin.

let me put this Godin into retrospect. I bought a 600€ strat-type Godin , sounded great, BUT: the neck ( and I play Yamaha Pacificas) was so narrow that bending was near impossible, now i see the Robert G, and I wanna puke!!! Ive tried a Chet Atkins -one with money to buy one, felt the "round narrow neck ok not for mee, but my experince withe the GOD in is more like GOout,

Although you may think you did all the choosing! lol.. think about it? this piece of wood with wires and strings That distinguishes frequencies and pitches and Intonates chromatically ( maybe it sounds like a modern magical wand) how ever you had this wonderful soulful conversation with it , it was like a Devine moment for you (you describe it as it sounded good) Though all floor salesmen agree that maybe with the drive you have already! and some heavy 10k hourly of theory practicing away from human ears then something good could possibly evolve out of all of this keep in mind that the instrument is energy also just like you though its metabolism is way more slower than yours! but the second you plugged it in and strap it on? it comes alive!!! its like you are the LIASON!! you are the ghost in the machine!

ATTENTION si vous achetez une Godin !!!!! J’ai acheté une 5th Ave Uptown Custom Havana Brown le 14/09/2023 à 1440€ et même pas deux mois après les frettes sont usées comme mes guitares qui ont deux ans et faire un glisser devient très désagréable tellement ça accroche😮. Je contacte la maison Godin qui me dit en résumé, ben, c'est normal😡🤬. Quarante ans de guitare pour entendre ça, quelle tristesse😫. Je précise bien que je ne suis pas un pro et que je ne passe pas toutes mes journées à jouer. Pour dire, la guitare a toujours toutes les cordes d’origine. Donc pour la maison Godin, tu changes plus souvent tes frettes que tes cordes. Heuuuu halo il y a des gens honnêtes dans cette boutique !?!? 😤😤😤😤😤😤 Voilà ma mésaventure avec Godin alors fêtes attention, c’est que du bizness et rien d’autre comme toutes les grandes marques, mais qui elles au moins vendent des guitares avec lesquelles tu peux jouer plus que deux mois. 😏😏Triste monde !!!! 😭😭

Longer scale length is better, this is what I understand. So each time we use a capo it means we degrade the guitar. Guys I am graduated from sound engineering, don’t even mention those fairy tales I can give you a million of examples
