It's now 2023 and I can still remember watching this performance on the Telethon. Robert was as brave a man as I have ever seen to give such a stirring rendition wnen he was not at his best. A truly heroic performance.

I read some of the comment and although it does not surprise me how quickly people want to judge and knock someone down, it does sadden me. For your information my Robert was not a boozer but he was very sick when he agreed to do the Telethon for a very good cause. He was a talented, kind and generous man. Qualities that some of you here could use. I lost him shortly after. Vera Goulet (Mrs. Robert Goulet)

+ROBERT GOULET THE MAN AND HIS LEGACY Only met your husband once (when Camelot came through my then-hometown of Tampa in the 90's), and he was amazingly kind and funny. Wishing you all the best and loving the videos you're posting.

This is inspiring to me, that HE was still reaching for that star, putting across a song in order to do good for others. Thanks for posting this. God bless you and yours.

That would explain why the wasn't the best I've ever heard from Mr. Goulet. His breath control was usually considerably better than he managed in this performance.

My mom and step mom love Robert. I had the most privileged blessing to take them both to see mr. goblet in man of La Mancha at the McCallum theatre in palm desert. They and I had the most wonderful evening. I would lose my mom not too long after that and them mr goulet. It was an honor.

We sang this (in Spanish) at our 6th grade Graduation ceremonies in the 60s, also three years later, graduating from 9th grade and finally finishing high school in 1975, the last two times I provided the lyrics. Now on karaoke nights I use the Matt Monro instrumental track, singing it in English and in Spanish. I simply love this song. Blessings from San Juan PR 🇵🇷 !!!

I met Mr. Goulet, just a few short years before he died. I remember calling him Mr. Goulet, he looked at me and said "Call me Bob, I looked at him and smiled" He was a kind man I will never forget how he wanted to be addressed in that way. RIP Mr. Goulet er.. Bob.

If only the noodles who run the movie industry had cast Robert Goulet in Man of La Mancha! This is the very best recording of the show's theme song for Mr. Goulet gets the heights and depths of Don Q's doomed quest, the death-wish inherent in all romanticism. He played Man of La Mancha in a successful tour (watch him taking a bow on KZbin) and paying fans responded warmly to the singer's in-role characterisation. He couldn't help but dominate the stage yet showed such generosity to the other players. Nobility is the word that fits Robert Goulet.

My condolences to you and your family. I apologize for the comment on being afraid of the high notes, but was unaware of his condition at the time. But,, as mentioned, I always respected the man, his voice, and the way he always presented himself with class and dignity. Please don't burden yourself with the ignorance of the masses . Thank you.

+brian morgan Social media has created a monster where everyone wants to offer an opinion without considering the consequences. I do forgive you, but not knowing that that he was sick is not an excuse for negative comments. It was very difficult of me to watch him struggle but the most frustrated person was Robert.

Dion1957, what a ridiculous comment. Lost his looks? He was in his early 70s here, and he's clearly in great shape and still very handsome. He still had power in his voice, as he demonstrates at the end of the song, but chose to speak-sing the verses, which I personally enjoyed. Look for the beauty in life and stop the mindless judging.
