Lyrics:
Almost heaven, West Virginia, Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River.
Life is old there, older than the trees, younger than the mountains, blowing like a breeze.
Country roads, take me home to the place I belong.
West Virginia, mountain momma, take me home, country roads.
All my memories gather round her, miner's lady, stranger to blue water.
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky, misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye.
Country roads, take me home to the place I belong.
West Virginia, mountain momma, take me home, country roads.

Just a prayer. May the American people be like this, like John Denver's audience. Men and women, black and white, of all ages and possibly many other social classes. All together in harmony, what serenity and kindness in your eyes.

*I always enjoy country music but when I meet my parents in law I totally fell in love with this style of music. now they aren’t here anymore. First my mother in law 8 months ago got a message from God and one week ago my father in law got the same message. They are in better hands in better place. Country music is my only ways to bring them back to me. Thank you Mavis and Jim. I love you both forever for teaching me another way to enjoy life and love! 😢💖✨*

I'm from Indonesia. This song is very famous here. Sung by all ages, from children to adults. Maybe this song can be a song that unites humans in the same thing: desire to "go home" [in Indonesia we call it mudik]. John Denver is amazing, miss him a lot🌾🌾🌾

Yes, we already know that the lyrics of this song are about West Virginia but we don't care about that. First because of the beauty of this song and second, the main message that we captured from this song is "go home". These two things are very universal. Thanks to John Denver for this great song 🌾🌾🌾

I grew up in a really tough neighbourhood in the seventies and eighties. Crime, violence, drugs, poverty, handicapped mother, father a criminal, always in jail. Everyday was really tough to get by. Growing up like that you could not help but to get always in trouble and into fights just to stand your ground. However, when I first listened to this song by coincidence I was 12 years old and it suddenly filled me with so much peace that I got addicted to listening to this song. I clearly remember laying on my bed as a kid in the runned down housing project with fungus coming through the wall, listening to this song over and over again just to destress. The calmness and happiness I experienced listening to this song was like a pure miracle to me. Of course as a tough kid I would not openly admit to listening to that kind of music. Only my best friend at that time knew and he had a great voice and he liked J D too. So whenever we met or when we were on our way to school I asked him to sing that song for me. The same experience I had with Poems , Prayers and Promises and many other J D songs. Years later I made it out of the ghetto and accomplished a good education and a honest and honourable life. Maybe just because of these songs. RIP John Denver, I would have loved to tell you this story in person.

Hey Bro, I lived in Colorado Springs for a long time, that where i was raised, well trials and tribulations along the way, here i am in Cimarron NM, listen to this, met up with some guys that jam and one guy Gary Reynolds, i had the pleasure of meeting, but he does a FANTASTIC rendition of these John Denver tunes among others, BUT i was fortunate enough to get together with Gary and a few other guys down here to put together a band that does some John Denver Tributes. Im out of Bass kilter, but we are having our first rehearsal tomorrow, and the drummer and other guitar player ive never met! Anyway i feel ya Tom. If you want, Ill let you know how things progress along, i mean were not novices in the music scene, weve all had years and years of stage experience and presence, so hopefully we can get this right at 58! Hang in there buddy, you deserve it!

Am not American. But how can I understand the spirit of real America? I turn on this song, close my eyes and here I am standing on the road that goes into the distance beyond the horizon, where the sun is slowly setting. Someone taps me on the shoulder, I turn around and see an old man with the face of John Wayne. And he, smiling barely noticeably from under the brim of his hat, tells me - There are things, son, that you cannot understand with your mind, but only with your heart...

Music is a gift from our Creator! Jesus is the reason for our existence..... for all things were made by Him and for Him. He lived a perfect life (without sin) and then died on a cross. Three days later He arose from the dead. He is coming back soon. If you believe this.....then you will be saved and go to Heaven some day (instead of Hell). It is God's amazing gift to us sinners. You just need to repent of your sins and ask Jesus to be LORD & Saviour.

I live in Argentina, and even today at 74 years old I am accompanied by his songs that reached my heart, long before I knew his lyrics. The days in the country where I spent my vacations in winter and summer, rural roads and mountains silhouetted by reddish sunsets are associated with my early childhood. During my youth I discovered that his songs and his music softened my nostalgia because somehow I also felt included. His actions in favor of peace and the preservation of nature speak of his spiritual greatness. Thank you John for continuing to exist among us.

@@prestonsmith9824 Preston - John Denver was in a country music class all by himself. He sang about things familiar to everyone and expressed feelings that most have had during their lifetimes. He had a simplicity to him that identified with the majority of the people with no regard to age, whether you were male/female, poor or rich, etc. There are a whole lot of really good country musicians out there still: Toby Keith is one of my favorites. Shame that Kenny Rogers has gone on to a better place as well. Have a nice night.

I swear Americans must think America is the only country, Like what about the African kids in Liberia huh? WHAT ABOUT THE KIDS IN LIBERIA!!!!

@@gherkingaming3988 well, obviously I ain’t talking about the other 6 continents or the other 194 countries and their peoples. I’m commenting to my Fellow Americans here in the U.S.A. about a Son of America and his song which is a part of Americana. I can’t help it if a kid from Liberia mis-read my comment and assumed it to mean something else. Maybe next time read others comments more carefully and think outside the box! How you got from A to Z and threw in an insult to Americans makes you sound like you have an inferiority complex and have a hard time comprehending. Obviously there are many kinds of people around the globe who know John and his music. That’s a no brained!

@@rutgersplague4595 I’m not surprised Friend. Country, Bluegrass and other genre of American music were born of Irish decent. The Irish culture as I’m sure you know was and is a big part of the shaping of America. My Pop was Irish and my Ma is Native American (Mi’gmaw). We sing it in the pubs as well here in Boston too. 🍻 Great tune!

We could use a few John Denvers in the world today. I spent 50 years there and couldn't wait to leave. Now 15 years later I find myself wanting to go back home.

I was so in love with him in the 70s as a teenybopper. he taught me to play guitar. I cried like a baby when he died. I couldn't sing along with his positive love of life songs without crying. This lasted for a very long time. A big part of my childhood crashed right along with him. Such a horrible end for a beautiful man. God has certainly rested his soul. Thank you, John, for your life and all you shared with us.
