Come on now, I have read both the Wheel of Time and Song of Ice and Fire, and they are both excellent and addictive series. Besides, what's all this competition about anyways? Remember, while JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis both wrote Fantasy genre, they also frequently met as friends, and shared their stories with each other. I'd like to think that a discussion between Martin and Jordan would probably be friendly. Stop hating and enjoy. And if you don't, then eff off with your nastiness.

We might disagree here, but I actually think the first few Wot books were a lot better than Song of Ice and Fire. Eye of the World, Dragon Reborn, Shadow Rising and Fires of Heaven were all terrific books...I think since then WoT books have dropped hugely in quality but I still think Eye of the World betters most of the Song of Ice and Fire books...

"that last scene you've talked about for so many years" I'm pretty sure he'd spent at least 6 months actually writing it in his extensive notes. 1. The Last Battle (ch. in AMoL/Book14) - ~81,000 words 2. If WoT only went on for one or two books after TDR, the series would've felt terribly incomplete. Not to mention that fitting all the prophecies and Min's foretelling into it would've made it feel rushed. By mentioning GRRM I hope you don't mean ASoIaF, because they were rather unmemorable. I don't want to really admit it but yes after book six he dragged it on all the way up until book 11, he should have somehow merged books 7-10 in one books by cutting out the nonsense...personally I find the Seanchan utterly insignificant and irrelevant to the general story. but I still love his books because they, after Harry Potter, were my first big new read of a fantasy series that no-one in London was raving on about...and his writing is breathtaking at times.

Developed by that you mean he signed for 6 books then realised his books were Best-sellers so then thought if I write a heap more books and delays the story I'll make more money, then yes I agree. If Jordan had finished at 6 books and condensed the story so that there wasn't so much repetitive stuff it would stand as one of the best series. Sadly he will be remembered as the author that people gave up on.
@misterbaybers401312 жыл бұрын
When I meant by writing, I meant mainly by Theon's chapters. I don't think a single WoT book can compare to the sheer tone of those scenes. ADWD was the worst in the series and a pretty meandering book at times but it was those chapters that made me finish it. I enjoy the WoT series, the first six to be precise, hell I even liked A Crown of Swords but books 8 to 10 were abominations in fantasy literature.

Whilst I respect your opinion, I would have to disagree. With WoT, I found escapism, something to enjoy when putting down a history book or so. But then the writing and plot got to me. The characters were generic and the plot cliched. With asoiaf however, I found a world relate able with the intrigues of Rome and the epicness of Shakespeare's plays, each character was multi-layered, it was a story generally about the human heart which why I prefer it over WoT. I do however enjoy WoT though.

@brisbanetim12 жыл бұрын
Yeah they are different - Martin doesn't insult fans by stringing out the story to 13 books. So many paragraphs are cut and paste in Jordan's books. He spends whole chapters explaining what has already been said - his editor should be fired.

Tim Clare nah he just insults his fans by not writing them at all.
@misterbaybers401312 жыл бұрын
Please tell me you're joking. ADWD was certainly dull in its pacing but it was an incredibly well written book, something that all the WoT books suffer from. Don't get me wrong, Jordan was fantastic story teller but he was a piss poor writer.
@brisbanetim12 жыл бұрын
I am not bitter. I just don't suffer authors who think they can extort their fans and make them pay for 13 books when it should have been 4 or 5. Read George R R Martin or David Gemmel - every paragraph has something in it - the story never lags. That is why Jordan will never be considered alongside the greats.
@brisbanetim12 жыл бұрын
It isn't opinion that he wrote that many books. I am not the only person who has voiced complaint about him stringing out his books. Why don't you go and read some reviews from both readers and book critics? He did end up writing 13 books - well 12 and a half. It is a FACT he cut and pasted paragraphs from previous books and used repetitive lines over and over. Lastly, yes you do have to address my opinions and stated facts if you reply to me - that is how debate works. Again, go back to school.
@brisbanetim12 жыл бұрын
George R R Martin... Tolkien... David Gemmell... All better than Jordan heads and shoulders. Jordan COULD have been there but he abused his fans by prolonging the series to make more money. This series should have ended at 5 or 6 books. He is the Bryce Courtney of fantasy.
@captainofthelemonwipes41604 жыл бұрын
How can you say he abuses his series with longevity then compare him to Martin? GoT isn't even finished and it has a television show that ended up running out of it's own source material. Some of the pacing in WoT was difficult to get through; I agree, however, the series at it's peak retained more than enough quality to keep me engaged until the end.
@fmfagan14 жыл бұрын
In MY opinion it's pointless to trade verbal barbs back and forth over who is the better author or what's the better series or book. Your comparing apples to oranges. Instead of bashing who's is better, I think both the authors and the readers would be better served if fans would simply say hey if you like Jordon's WoT then try "x", it's fantastic!
