Thirty years ago, mobile phones were a joke. Big heavy phones with ten minutes talk time. Twenty years ago, mobile computing was a joke, big heavy machines with one hour of battery life. Ten years ago electric cars were a joke. They looked silly, took hours to charge and only went fifty miles.
Currently, grid level energy storage is a joke - other than pumped storage in mountains, there is nothing. But if we could store gigawatts of electricity the change would be nothing short of a global shift.
