What a climber MIllar was, Wiggins may have surpassed his achievements but he was an original and maverick of real class. God I loved the tour in this era, its like watching your favourite old film

When pro's were tough , using 39 / 42 X 23 maybe 25 for real step / long climbs. No lids and steel frames , none of carbon shite.

This is actually the Col d'Agnes (which this years Tour went over). The Col de Latrape was the next, smaller climb. I was watching the Tour at Guzet Neige that day in 1988.

The culture and weather that prevail in Scotland are not conducive to producing top cyclists.makes me realize the enormous depth of talent Robert must have had to teach the upper echelons of international cycling .his unassuming personality and unique riding style make him one of my all time favourite cyclists.

I think looking bacl Roberts move to Fagor was a mistake..although he was forced into the leaders role with Roche out, but he should never have joined then in my opinion

this was before EPO ruined the tour. when they climb now its as if they are even going up hill. shame drugs killed the sport
