As a Gainesville native (as was Tom Petty) playing this song while screaming crying singing has gotten me through many of my life’s curve balls - he was a genuinely laid back nice guy and his music is just as amazing in 2024 as it was back when he was playing the local bars on University Ave across from UF ❤

I'm from Sparta, North Carolina, none could have put it into words how it feels to be a southerner any better than Tom did. Live in Ohio now but this song ALWAYS takes me back home. God I miss this man!

A whole planet full of people are in shock at the result of the US election. Makes me feel ashamed to be white and English speaking. The leader of the western world is a r@pist, possibly a p@edophile, definitely a scumbag and he represents every white person on the planet. Sad.

Listened to this again today and wondered about the Latino (to me) accent. A search revealed Petty was criticised for bunging on a Southern drawl (he grew up in the South) or even more bizarrely, Jamaican. I am Australian and always took it as Latino, and it was there for a reason, although I never fully understood the reasoning. The part of a macho guy perhaps?
