Mitchum gets my vote as THE Alpha Male of the 20th Century. Masculine beyond words, handsome beyond description and.....oh my God.....THAT VOICE...!!!!

He is my favorite Movie Star of all time. SO underrated and he should've been given the AFI award. Robbed he was.

I wouldn't go that far. He was awarded the Cecil B DeMille in 1992 and lived a great life, was friends with Elvis Presley, drinking buddies with John Huston and of course Lee Marvin and John Wayne.

I don’t think he would have wanted that award. He disliked that sort of thing.

Charles Bronson and Robert Mitchum are my favorites. They both have the star quality of those before them and the naturalness of those to come.

Letterman asking Mitchum to "leave his voice in the dressing room" once again demonstrated the power and brilliance of his wit. For Chrisakes, his show is built for laughs and all guests know this before signing on. So give Letterman a break!.....all you sticks-in-the-mud who can't appreciate his sense of humor!

Surprised that he talked; he normally answered "yup" or "nope". One of the most underrated actors of all time; his little finger had more acting ability than most of the current stock of "luvvies", A great man; actor; poet.He never took himself seriously. Classical Stephen

EverettDudgeon138 He's much older here, and I doubt he would want something like that haunting him. He said he was in Ireland at the time, a small town called Dingle, and since there wasn't much to do there, drinking would've been a very common thing.

has only seen 3 movies in 10 years! , its funny about actors, or certain actors. they dont watch themselves, they are not into movies, they just see it as a job, and you know , they are right, it is just a job! you turn up, do your bit , then leave.. the money is amazing at the top, so why give it up such an easy gig..

Why was Mitchum even on this show? I came here following a Mitchum link- I've watched a few Letterman interviews, the guy has no substance, he cannot deviate from his scripted questions and therefore misses great opportunitues to mine the experience and natural charm and gregarious nature of some of his guests, his whole show is aimed at perpetuating his own celebrity. He wishes Mitchum a condescending farewell; Mitchum is, however, gracious having more class than Letterman will ever know/ have.

I've always hated Letterman as an interviewer, he seems to treat his guests terribly to try and evoke an emotional response - Mitch was too cool to let it get to him I suppose. Still wished Oliver Reed had clocked him in the interview he done with him.
