I could picture Robert Mitchum in a pub, sharing company with the likes of Oliver Reed, Keith Moon, Richard Burton, and Richard Harris.
@garymartin68022 жыл бұрын
Me too as he was a good friend of another hell-raiser Trevor Howard. Keith Richards recalled the time he found out he was staying at the same hotel as the Rolling Stones, knocked on their door and shouted "THIS IS A POLICE BUST!" Terrified, the guys ended up spending the night smoking dope with the ultimate prankster Mitchum.

Mitchum wasn't actually kicked out of the house on bad terms with his mother at age 16, but rather had to leave because she, as a single mother raising three kids during the Depression, was simply too poor to care for all three and Robert (I believe) being the oldest was asked to leave so that the other three could survived, according to "Baby I Don't Care" a biography of his life. I can't be sure of all the details because it has been a few years since I read the book.

I first saw Mitchum in The Winds of War when i was 9 or 10. He was impressive. Did not know his prior work until years later when i became a true movie fan. One of the greats. More range than John Wayne, i would say. The comments about Cape Fear are dead on. I saw it some while after i saw the remake. The original was, not surprisingly, a little better in most areas. El Dorado is classic, as are so many of his films. Sadly, he had an alcohol problem like many of his generation, and it affected him later in life. Great man though
