A Word on Westerns

5 жыл бұрын

After working his way up in a series of Hopalong Cassidy B westerns, the perennially underrated actor Robert Mitchum seemed to have become an instant star. Who noticed how good he really was? What was it like growing up the son of a superstar? Did Mitch ever offer any advise to his sons? Find out the answers to those questions and more in this exclusive look back with son, actor Chris Mitchum, on A WORD ON WESTERNS, recorded at The Autry Museum May 16, 2017.

My mother and my oldest sister had such a crush on Robert Mitchum. My first introduction to him was "Thunder Road"! I can't think of any time I was disappointed in any of his movies. Chris Mitchum was, at best, an extra. His father and John Wayne gave him a career. I also would like to say that I am tired of people who acted in some western movies pretending to be "cowboys" in their later years. This show is lame. Word is not even from the west. He is just a producer from Florida who found a way to make money pretending to be a westerner.
@bluenetmarketing
@bluenetmarketing 2 жыл бұрын
@@tomsampson8084 Not sure why you are so negative. What you say doesn't make any sense. Acting is acting, it isn't a documentary using real people. Besides, people change careers all the time. And there's nothing wrong with finding a way to make money. We all do it. Have you done any acting or movie making? You might like it and be good at it if you try.

There's a very interesting interview with Ronald Reagan at his presidential library that in it he talks about John Wayne making the movie The Green Berets and how certain factions in Hollywood tried to purposely torpedo it, Reagan was Governor of California at the time and was told tickets weren't available for the movies opening but in reality they were trying to make the movie look bad by having empty seats on opening night, try looking up Ronald Reagan/John Wayne on youtube and I'll bet you can find it, it's pretty interesting what he said happened and especially John Waynes reaction when he caught on to what was happening.

“Out of the Past”-known also as “Hang My Gallows High”. Amazing, incredible performances way beyond their years. David Lean wanted to work with Mitchum and misplaced him in “Ryan’s Daughter.” His stature was too powerful for the part. The intimidation Mitchum brings to “Cape Fear” (1962) and the final scenes show how wonderful an actor he was. His great body of work will guarantee his iconic place in movies for all time. I'm real glad I watched this Show. I didn't realize that Chris rechem actually had a Korea outside the United States. And that he had tons 65 films. The dam shame that I got blackballed because of his relationship with the great John Wayne.

Very, very good. Mitchum was underrated. I always thought it was so easy for him he looked bored at times. Good to see Chris again. Never did know what he all did.

Great interview, wish I could've been there. Mitchum mentioned the TCM Film Noir series on Sundays. Someone here awhile back commented on how Rob should host a Western genre one on TCM. I STRONGLY agree. Rob has the knowledge, the love, connections and the ability as an interviewer to make an outstanding program Saturdays would be a great time.

Great interview with Chris Mitchum who played in (3) John Wayne movies - Rio Lobo, Chisum, and Big Jake. I contact Chris Mitchum a while ago and he responded: River of No Return song in the movie is sung by Robert Mitchum. There are no credits before or after the movie. I confirmed this by contacting Robert Mitchum's son Chris Mitchum who stated Dad sang it! Robert Mitchum had a beautiful singing voice. Great movie & acting by Mitchum & Monroe! Thanks for doing the interview. Many classic movies with Robert Mitchum that I never miss when on TV.

@@jozatexan1964 You are wrong. You have no documentation to back up what you are stating. Ernie Ford would never do a song in a movie without credits. Wikipedia states that it is Robert Mitchum . If in doubt contact Robert Mitchum's son Chris Mitchum who will confirm - Dad sung it. Here is the Ernie version kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6W3nnWFnt18as0 - Not used in the movie: It's Mitchum - Listen to Ernie Ford's version line: AND SOMETIMES WILD & FREE - DEEPER VOICE! Also, Mitchum's version is 2:14 sec. long & Ernie Fords is 2:31 sec. long - Slower version. No credits for Ernie in the movie either.

Wonderful ! Just found this post ! I've always been a Big fan of this era of great movie making. Can't wait to watch more. Marion Morrison must really be enjoying whats finally happening to the Spoiled American Socialist (SAS-sing) criminals and creeps in politics, academia, media, entertainment and law today that will restore our country to the Founding principles.
