Yes. Totally agree. To me, it always comes back to "Pictures at Eleven", and "The Principle of Moments". After Zeppelin, he paved a new path for himself. He didn't so much reinvent himself, as he moved forward with a level of maturity and restraint. He refused to play Zeppelin for the first 3 or 4 tours. To me, that shows what a true artist is. And those first albums were so personal, mature, intelligent and adventurous. He also surrounded himself with some amazing artists (most notably, and importantly, Robbie Blunt and Phil Collins).

Paneeks1960 I saw "The Firm" at Mercer Arena, in Seattle, in 1985, when i was 14. I saw Plant in 1988, also in Seattle. Its right when he started playing zeppelin songs again. He played "communication breakdown", but the highlight was "In the Mood". Then I saw Page/Plant in 1995, in Tacoma. Great concert, bad seats. Out of all of those shows, The Firm stands out as one of the best shows I have seen, ever. They played about 8 encores, seriously about 8. They just kept coming back. I left twice, and had to run back in when I heard them come back on stage. Plus, The Firm was a real concert. It was general admission seating, and everybody could congregate around the stage, which was about 10 feet above everybody. There was a problem with people pushing, but it got sorted out. Lots of herb flowing around to EVERYBODY. At 14, I was handed about 5 pipes and lighters. Which at 14, in the audience by myself, Jimmy Page 10 feet away from me? I was in heaven. How about you?

Excellent response. We were both seeing The Firm and Plant during those tours in separate cities. I cannot remember every time I saw Robert because there has been quite a few. But to make it easy I have seen all of his solo tours except two in the last ten years. I saw him a lot more in the 80's and 90's in different cities. The 83 tour at the Centrum in Worcester Mass was a highlight. It was the night of the infamous shoe/sneaker incident. I am sure you can find the story on the Net somewhere. > Another great night was when he played with Stevie Ray Vaughn at Great Woods in Mansfield, Mass back in 1988. I saw Page play at the ARMS Festival in Madison Square Garden in 1983. Also with The Firm at the same venue as well as Boston Garden. I saw his Outrider tour as well. Plus the Page/Plant tours in 95 and 98 were great. I saw Led Zeppelin also at Madison Square Garden on June 10, 13th and the 14th in 1977. Those were the three highlights of my concert days. I went from upper balcony {blue seats} on the 10th, lower arena {yellow seats} on the 13th and the last show out of the six I sat dead center 21st row. My cousin and I bought the seats for $50 a piece off a scalper. That was the best show I ever saw and I have seen out of 300 plus concerts. I was 16 at the time and seeing my favorite band three nights out of six was a dream come true. Thanks to my cousin who lives in NY or else I would not have been allowed to go. > You would have loved it. NYC and especially around the Garden was filled with Zeppelin fans. We met up with fans in restaurants, record stores and just hanging out on the side of the Garden. Boom boxes and car stereos blasting their studio and live albums. It was something that I will never forget. I still have my original jerseys, program and ticket stubs. I also saw them perform at Live Aid in 1985 down at JFK Stadium in Philly. Lastly I saw them at Madison Square Garden in 1988 when they played at Atlantic Records 40th Anniversary with Jason Bonham on drums. It sounded excellent inside but the tapes of the show was not the best. That is just about it for the Might Blimp and solo shows that I can remember. It was cool being able to share these memories with you. Hope you dug hearing about them~ Rob/Boston

Paneeks1960 Great story man!! Its rare that I come across somebody, who has seen Zeppelin live! So, hearing all the details was awesome! That's so cool that your cousin lived there, and made it possible for you to take the trip on your own. I had a sister in Seattle, and that's how I got to go to The Firm. Your 77' NY story kind of reminded me of that part in the "Song Remains The Same", when security lets those kids in the back entrance, even though they didn't have tickets. You don't see anybody THAT psyched to see a band today. In fact, I think it was rare back then. Zeppelin had that magic about them. I discovered Zeppelin when I was 13, in 82'. So didn't get the chance to see them live. I actually discovered solo plant, the same time I was discovering Zeppelin. That year, at 13, was pretty amazing, in that every time I had the money, I would go and buy a new Zeppelin album (about an album every 2 months). The excitement about hearing something new by Zeppelin, that I hadn't heard, was just magic. I started out with only one record from Physical Graffiti. It was the record with Kashmir. It was my sister's record (never knew what happened to the other record!). She was about 8 years older, and left it behind at the house. I listened to that one religiously, with headphones every night. So, I always wished I was born 8 years earlier, so I could see Zeppelin live. But, I have the bootlegs, and the stories, like yours, so it makes up for it.

Led Zeppelin were a HEAVY ROCK BLUES BAND.............they were NEVER in the pop main stream. In the 1970's people like me bought their records...we were the 1% but that was all it took to make them the biggest rock band in the world....Loyal fans to this day I've been a fan for 45 years and never applied for any of those O2 tickets .........too old to get court up in that fiasco. Come on Robert...........sort it out mate and give us true fans one last blast before we go back to mother earth......... Fook the media......they NEVER supported Led Zeppelin in the beginning/ever...........and were only too willing to kill off Led Zeppelin when punk shyt became the next new wave! REAL MUSIC and LED ZEPPELIN will never die. Rock on.

I wonder if his Grandkids play together for Robert's Birthday and play some old Zeppelin songs? It's Robert's decision to play and record whatever type music he wishes. But if he wanted to sell out at the largest stadiums across the world, he would have to reunite with the remaining 3 from Zeppelin, and maybe Jason Bonham, or another top rated drummer.. But if he wishes to just do his own thing, that's great and his decision. He wont make a $$$Billion dollars doing it though. I seen Zeppelin perform live in Louisville, Ky in 1977. I bought 10 tickets, all the limit, my buddy got cut's back in line and so he bought 20 tickets. I think they were maybe $10.50 or something, but sold for $100 each, except to a couple friends. We partied all night waiting for tickets to go on sale at Freedom Hall in Louisville. The best concert I've ever been to,,and I've seen some really good bands, including Pink Floyd, Queen, etc.. It was open festival seating, or standing, down in the floor area and we got straight out maybe 25' from the stage. Wow what a performance it was too!

1:12 - Interesting.....not only did he know of Otis Rush (who wrote "I can't Quit You"), he actually played with him......absolutely fascinating! When I see/hear Zeppelin's version, knowing that Otis didn't pass away until (I think) 2018, I have wondered what he thought of their version and whether or not he was miffed they never gave credits to the authors of their many hits. Not kicking Zep for not doing it, just curious if creating artists like Otis Rush were as bent about as so many virtue signalling internet Karens seem to be....
