Former Labor Secretary and co-founder of ‪@imcivicaction‬ ‪@inequalitymedia‬ ‪@RBReich‬ says the Democratic Party has not only turned its back on the working class, it's stopped trying to tell an accurate story about why the middle class is in trouble and is allowing Republicans to create their own excuses for why the economy isn't working.

Isn’t it amazing how comedians can see things that our political leaders can’t even see? P.S. the gentleman talking to Mr Reich resembles Jimmy Dore. I thought that’s who it was at first.

But the system is rigged to prevent us from ever getting a 3rd party on the ticket. All we have to work with are Dems & Repubs. So we have to grab the Dems by the throat & get them to start supporting a Progressive agenda, in state elections as well as in the House & the Senate. We need candidates like Bernie who will get up on a stage & tell the truth about the Dems abandoning the working & middle class back in the 1990s to chase after $$ from corp. donors & billionaires, the way Repubs have always done We have to be willing to publicly shame Every Corp.-Owned Democrat who's only looking out for the interests of their donors. AND we must shame them on being bought & paid for AIPAC shills while we're at it. That's gonna take a lot of work, but if we can get the big unions to work with us & show folks how to organize, we might move the needle before the midterms.

The problem is the corporatocracy owns and runs the American political system for their own benefit. The corporate coup d’état has been so successful that the people don’t realise it has even happened!! Education of the working class is the answer. The working class are looking for answers and being educated to believe that they are the problem via the corporate media!! Educate, organise, strike and win. The corporatocracy for all its power over congress is defenceless against an organised,politically educated, united, militant working class. It’s the very reason they needed to orchestrate the corporate coup d’état in the first place. Organise, unite, fight, win. History shows us that we the working class ARE the power that generates wealth. When we fought for our rights we won. The answer is there in history!
@MarC-te4he

Thank you for this. And if we are to help the working class understand what is happening and what they must do, we must meet them where they are... in their bubble, where the corporatocracy has them trapped so they won't be aware and fight back.

But the working class are the least situated to be able to fight. They are the most vulnerable to losing their jobs. Unless they could get organizations like the trade unions or community organizations like the Black Panthers to support them fully again as in the past, I dont see them overcoming the corporate bullies. For instance, corporations use migrant workers for cheap labor, but then through the Republicans, in order to get votes, they chastise them saying that they take American's jobs and commit crimes. Once you give Big Money all the money, they will use it to squash the Left, because in America money is power. The working class can be educated to the hilt, and it wont do any good if they cant feed their families, get medical insurance, hold on to a job, make car payments, and the rest of it, all while protesting for better outcomes. That is why the Right hates government: if the working class and the middle class felt safe due to progressive policies, the management class wouldnt be able to control them.

A big part of that attitude comes from the prosperity gospel movement. If God is blessing them for their efforts and goodness, those who are suffering are being punished for their bad choices and character. If God is punishing them, humans shouldn't do anything to make their lives easier. It allows them to wash their hands of the massive problem. It's a sick and unbiblical way of thinking.

Robert Reich: "People who are associated with the right, talk the language that is most conducive to the rich getting richer." I've often asked myself why this is. I would love to hear what other people here think on this question...
@DebraDay-p4z

Well, I don't know how true it is, but a lot of people think that Dems have more education and better pay, and think Repubs are the opposite.( I say that's a class issue, not a party issue.) Clearly those with less education haven't had as much school time to learn thinking skills (not that schools actually teach it, but with more years in school, you have enough time and exposure to new ideas, people, and problems to kind of figure at least a little of it out by yourself. Less education also means less vocabulary, so anyone that talks at the same level is regarded as trustworthy. Trump has often said that people will believe anything, if you say it often enough, and that's especially true if you have less education. The world is drowning you in things you don't understand. But you keep getting poorer, and it seems like everyone is beating you down. Then along comes Trump, the master manipulator with no heart. He speaks at their education level, hammers on their fears (including the the evil, Dem vermin, convinces them he's their only hope. He doesn't mention that the tax cuts are for the wealthy, so they assume it's for them

I think we as humans have a biological imperative to support children until such a time as they reach an age of personal responsibility. That is why we respond with caring towards someone who has the features of youth and not so much when that same person grows to adulthood. This is our biology, instinct, it is not goodness. Young children are vulnerable to everything and humans require a long time to invest in getting them to adulthood. So we have an instinct to try to preserve the safety of those young children. Don't mistake it for any kind of inhehrant goodness though. We are subconsciously working to preserve humanity as a whole. That's it.

Here's what RR really means; Common good is often associated with collectivism, which is a fundamental attribute of socialism. The right holds dear the principles of liberty and individual freedoms. When the common good violates a person's liberties then it is no longer aligned with the good of the American people as a whole, only those who subscribe to the dogma of the party.

The right does NOT hold dear the principles of liberty and individual freedoms. Exhibit 1: abortion Exhibit 2: birth control Exhibit 3: voting rights Abortion is a personal decision, yet the government, who has no medical knowledge, has chosen to impose itself in the doctors' offices and ERs. The church gets to decide for ALL of us when "life begins" and removes our choice to family planning. Why does some random person that I don't know get to remove my name from the voting rolls? Why isn't the government verifying this information and notifying me when my name is removed?

Yeah, but the problem is that if you have way less money to run your campaign, and the other party still takes the payoffs, their campaign will slaughter yours. I've read that many billionaires also make a sport of betting which candidate will win. Sickening.

The solution is probably at hand, and it won't be pretty. Income inequality eventually leads to financial failure in the banking system when bank customers become unable to pay back their loans. This happened in the 1920s and will happen again very soon. At the beginning of the 1930s depression we did have competent people in government (even if their ideas were out of step with events). We're about to get a president and his cabinet operating at the intellectual level of grade schoolers. Now how is that going to work out?

Why isn't the economy working (for the majority)? Because people like Reich in his role as Secretary of Labor under Clinton (1993 - 1997) gave us NAFTA (1994). The promised "service" economy works for the wealthy as finance is mostly "service" (paper shuffling), but for the majority it was a disaster and must inevitably fail. Surely Reich knew that his involvement in exporting jobs overseas would lead to this disaster. So why the sudden honesty; is it purely ego driven?

We have a fascist system, where corporations & government have worked together for decades now to drive small business out of business threw regulation, eliminating competition for the big corporations & making it imposible for the little guy to compete, Obama drove the car battery refurbishers out of business for instance and car batteries went from 20$ to 75$ in short order, raising prices on things we have to buy raises GDP without any need to actually do anything, while making us all poorer, after 2 decades + of this, yes our economy is no longer working very well. the fix is to deregulate small business & give them a big advantage over corporations & let us fix the economy & work our way out & force big business to actually innovate thier way to big profits, instead of paying the government to strong arm thier competition out of business.

What is the “good”? Ans: health, wealth, beauty, forms of justice and freedom, friendship and sociability, pleasure and happiness. This has been known about as long as Pythagoras theorem and it is equally true. Each element of the good is only good up to a point, no extremes. Now design policies that create a reasonable mixture and distribution or balance. Left vs Right boils down to difference of emphasis on selected elements. That what it means and you can read it in a 2020 book by Alan E Singer.
