I'd like to live forever. Who wouldn't? But what would living forever mean? What would we do? Almost every religion offers life after death, in one form or another, as a reward to the just. What are the similarities and differences among these diverse afterlives? What would immortality and eternal life be like or feel like?

This is why I'm agnostic. I find it hard to believe that anybody can say with absolute certainty what will happen; whether god exists or not.

I find the term agnostic a bit superfluous as I think everyone is agnostic about a God or gods. People can pretend they know because of a strong conviction or belief, but they can't know, just as an athiest can't know that gods don't exist

I agree with Paul. I think most people are either agnostic atheists or agnostic theists. Those are the most honest positions to hold, in my opinion, with atheism probably being the most rational view.

Then why don’t you just ask God? If your sincere enough He will definitely respond. In the meantime, contemplate on the creations around you. How is it that everything we have come to known and see come from nothing? Contemplate on the seasons and the cycles of life and how lands go from barren/lifelessness to fertile and full of life and back to barren. How is it that this theme of cycles and circles can be found in literally everything? From the structure of the atom to the galactic orbit and everything else in between. “So observe the effects of the mercy of Allah - how He gives life to the earth after its lifelessness. Indeed, that [same one] will give life to the dead, and He is over all things competent.” (30:50) Believe it or not even our sleep is a sign of an afterlife. Why do we even dream? Scientists propose many theories on this but no one knows for a fact why it happens. What does Allah say on this? ˹It is˺ Allah ˹Who˺ calls back the souls ˹of people˺ upon their death as well as ˹the souls˺ of the living during their sleep. Then He keeps those for whom He has ordained death, and releases the others until ˹their˺ appointed time. Surely in this are signs for people who reflect.(39:42). Death and sleep here are considered similar to one another. This is further confirmed when Prophet Muhammad PBUH said “sleep is the brother of death”. So now begs the question, if sleep and death are similar then wouldn’t that mean that there is something after death? If we’re able to have out-of-the-body experiences every single night then what makes it hard to believe in another type of out-of-the-body experience after death? Just a food for thought. I humbly request that you read chapters 30 and 39 of the Quran. It elaborates more on what was said and is definitely worth pondering over. I pray that Allah guides you and open your heart.

@@kryjerlip7986 think you are struck with wonder and ignorance. Everything we see didn't come from nothing. We don't really understand what nothing is or even if nothing is possible. Just because we don't have all the answers doesn't mean we should say or accept God did it, or arrogantly proclaim which particular God did it. Was it the Christian God, the Islamic God, the Norse God or the Greek or hindu gods. Nature and the universe are so much more interesting when you realise that all of the man made gods are made up fairy tales.

@@kryjerlip7986 what came from nothing ?? There is no such a view in the scientific mainstream Life origin is probably a spontaneous event in the proper environment possible in the presence of some crystal formations given the extreme amounts of atoms and molecules on a single planet and the vast number of planets within the visible universe. Such an event is somehow mysterious and hard to replicate but at least looks plausible. Then you can go to the question of the origin of the universe itself. Certainly there was never a state where nothing at all existed since such a state would not evolve into anything. Time could have a starting point at say t0 and if that was the case a point before t0 would not exist although intuitively you would think it was possible. For example a parameter can be found to exist on a circle. So you can only locate the parameter on that circle because ot doesn’t exist elsewhere. Being unable to go back in time not even in principle before t0 is counterintuitive but it may be some truth in this idea. But these are poroposed hypothees, nobody knows exactly what time space matter light and other stuff are. Also nobody can guarantee we will be able to find answers to such questions. Theists claim they know a big truth about the world when in fact everything they know has no value. At least science admits it doesn’t know everything and simply proposes solutions that can be tested, what can’t be tested is not fully accepted as fact.

Once the illusion Of separateness between us and the environment goes away, then its a direct contact with the essence of our environment. Indeed God acted regular way by saving prophets when they were in near death danger. When you study history of many other prophets before the Jesus (pbuh), then Islam makes far more sense. When Prophet Jonah was thrown into the ocean, he was supposed to be drown and dead but God saved him from near death. When Joseph was thrown into well, he was supposed to be drown in the well and dead, but God saved him from near death. Likewise Prophet Noah supposed to be drown in the flood water, but God save him from near death. Moses was chased by biggest military ever known to Moses, but God saved Moses from near death. Prophet Lot was forcefully escorted to safety and saved by angels, when wrath of God sent down upon Sodom and Gomorrah. Prophet Daniel supposed to be eaten by lions, but God saved him from near death. Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) was chased by pagan-arabs but God saved him from near death. As per the Quran, Jesus was not killed nor he was crucified but it was made appeared to the enemies and God saved Jesus (pbuh) from humiliation, torture, nakedness and near death. Quran 4-157 That they said (in boast), "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah";- but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not:-

Disease and earthquakes are only “bad” from a very human perspective. They’re as much a part of this reality - neither good nor bad - as raindrops and sunshine. Our bodies host 1-3 kg of bacteria, which we actually depend upon to live. Will this “good” bacteria be allowed to persist in this new reality? I hate to sound overly harsh, but the anthropocentric wish-fulfilment of these arguments strikes me as very incoherent, naive, and childlike.

When you start off by assuming the existence of the thing that is being questioned, you lose any semblance of adherence to the scientific method. Aside from faith (pretending to know things you don't know) and belief, Russell has squat, and he should have been pressured a lot more. I like that bit about Jesus being both inside space and time and outside of it at the same time. There's a Nobel Prize for explaining the physics behind that! He essentially suggested that God could change the laws of nature to suit himself. QFT (quantum field theory) tells us with exceptional confidence that there are no interactions from god/devil/soul/ghost fields in our natural world, or we'd know it, or still have unexplained interactions - which we don't. If he's saying that God can change all that with a wink of his eye, then he's saying God is a liar, a magician, an illusionist, allowing us to see something that is patently false because everything is actually a product of god-magic. There are no laws of physics that coincidently match with the orbits of the moon that is actually carried by angels; our natural laws are just an illusion and God is the magician - the deceiver. OK. If you say so. I figured out quite some time ago, that if the Judeo-Christian god was real, he was not "good" as we understand that word. Deception, along the lines of hiding dinosaur fossils to test faith in Creationism, is not typically described as "good" and Gen 3:22 tells us we know what good and evil are. I'm going to go with the natural laws, rather than accept that there's a lying, deceptive god out there.

If eternal life is a possibility, then the only logical purpose for our eternal existence is if we could each create and maintain a universe out of the fabric of our own being - just as God has done. Indeed, what do you think being "created in the image of God" actually means?

If only people could Realize themselves as SOUL, these questions would answer themselves. I've recalled countless Past Lives. The body dies....we (as SOUL) live on. The Universe will collapse, but all SOULS will go on to Higher Dimensions. The Universe will be recreated, and the SOULS that still need further schooling, will return. This world is just a School for Soul. That's why it was created. It's a very well run Training Academy. There aren't any mistakes...just Souls getting experiences they need to go further. BLESSINGS..

1 John 3:2 - Beloved, now we are the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be; but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is. 1 Corinthians 15: 51 - 57- 51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

When we dream, the dream seems real. It is only upon awakening that we realize it was just a dream. We are dreaming now. The dream is of separation from God, or if you prefer non-religious language, "All That Is." It’s a nightmare of separate bodies, whose "life" is ruled by its opposite, death. The purpose of life, then, is to awaken from the dream; all meaning is derived from this purpose.
