The compassion for self and other that this video teaches is so healing. Thank you for honoring the process that is forgiveness and for giving us permission, without judgment, to move through that process at our own pace.

Jack Kornfield is such a genuine person. I feel comfortable listening to Jack. He comes across engaging and pleasant. I feel like he is explaining something profound, and yet he does it in away that is conversational and friendly. I don't feel like he is trying to "sell" me anything. We are all lucky to have teachers like Mr. Kornfield.

In 1983 I went to the Vipassana center in Barre MA for 10 days meditation with S.N. Goenka. It was the most intense and incredible experience. On the first day there were hundreds of people participating. Within 2 days, I’ve noticed that there were fewer and fewer people. So many couldn’t handle being silent and meditate 11 hours daily. I was very proud of myself to be one of the people who completed the course. Peace and ❤to all being s.

although I'm not a huge fan of Buddhism, I like this man's gift of addressing the laws of nature. Grace is the lawlessness of purity. and true grace only exists in this universe through those whom understand love, hope, and faith.

The word "forgive" means to wipe the slate clean, to pardon, to cancel a debt. When we wrong someone, we seek their forgiveness in order for the relationship to be restored. Forgiveness is not granted because a person deserves to be forgiven. No one deserves to be forgiven. Forgiveness is an act of love, mercy, and grace. Forgiveness is a decision to not hold something against another person, despite what they have done to you.

Jack Kornfield has given us much wisdom; however, there is more. Meditation is great to quiet the mind during meditation, however, it has its limitations. Spinoza, a 17th-century philosopher, gives us a method to strengthen our mind and live in clarity and truth. The power of understanding thyself leads to freedom from childhood trauma, negative emotions and can become a new reality.

Many Buddhist practitioners, including Bernie Glassman and Vietnam veteran and monk Claude Anshin Thomas, have spent nights sleeping on the streets with the homeless...Thich Nhat Hanh is the most famous proponent of Engaged Buddhism, working to solve social problems in the world...and Kornfield himself was in Cambodia shortly after the Khmer Rouge's reign of terror. Adyashanti visits prisons. Eckhart Tolle sold his car and gave his house to a homeless person. This work is getting done.

Forgiveness is the FULL practice of Christianity. Unfortunately, many people who call themselves "Christian" don't practice it very well. They end up hurting themselves, getting cancer, and making others miserable. Jack offers some good perspectives, so did Gandhi and King. The trick is to embrace them, and we're human, so it's not always easy. That's why we need to ask God, The Universe, Higher Power, whatever we call the life force that is bigger than ourselves, to HELP up to forgive. Also, not easy in our "Let's make a deal" (with God) culture. Thanks Jack, Ed Garren, LMFT
@SpiritofSix10 жыл бұрын
Forgiveness is not a logical thing to do--it asks us to wipe the slate clean for somebody's wrongdoing that cannot be undone. It is the ability to let the past be the past: to become one with the present so that we may continue to build upon where we stand right now. Sometimes that person we can't forgive is ourselves... when we cling to our mistakes we become lost in the memory--of something that was but still is. The past doesn't die, it becomes something else that we can still build upon in the present. Until we forgive we are lost. As for this man's words: I find them to be beautiful but I disagree with his world outlook. Saying that we are not our bodies or to believe in reincarnation is to no embrace our reality--it is to the truth of what we experience. As the philosopher NIetzsche would say, paraphrased: it is a hatred of life to try to escape from it. That is all. I care deeply about people and I want to embrace my reality for all that it is--without denying the truth of our lives, of our humanity. If you find me to be genuine bring me your knowledge and experience so that we may grow.

Jack Kornfield tells a story about two monks where one of them had been imprisoned several years by the Chines regim. It went something like this: "After years and years in prison, have you been able to forgive the ones who kept you imprisoned?" "No" answer the other monk where the first monks says "Well then they still have you in captivity".

I enjoyed this video and gave it a thumbs up as well as shared on social media. My problem with this video is... A fully-fed man cannot tell a hungry man not to cry of hunger. He is on an exalted state of mind. That is why he can afford the luxury to preach forgiveness. Don't you think people who have had it rough "got that" they would forgive naturally? Buddhism after all is masochistic. It harps meditation as a virtue and waxes paean to discipline and dhamma. Heck those 115 people disliked it, even THEY have a point. Even they have a dhamma. Too much spirituality is actually toxic. Just frikkin live life and love life a little. Jesus.

You don't create an identity out of your personal history, your psychology (conditioned, programmed thoughts), or you just become aware of a lack of forgiveness and remain aware of it until you realise you're not the thoughts and emotions, but the consciousness that sees every thought and emotion and physical sensation. The easy way is to realise every thought is not true, but only a thought (same for emotions, etc.) How can you take that seriously then. You're free!
