As E. Schwarzcopf opined: I can't help it if all the most beautiful song in the world were written in my language. SO TRUE!
@brucejackson4219 Жыл бұрын
So very NOT true: many written in [say[ English eg. Sally in our Alley [Henry Carey] and Kathleen Mavourneen [sung by John McCormack].

Do not forget Berlioz! Maybe the most beautiful song ever written is ' la spectre de la rose' on music and text as well!

Now, THAT'S a voice. Not the best in the world. But what counts is that she FEELS it! All about interpretation. Often, in the singing of leider and opera, what counts is 'the occasion' - the mood of the singer and the audience. A half-good singer on a good night in the right mood can deliver the most memorable evening of your life. Callas used to do that. Sometimes she sang flat, but it did not matter. You glossed over. There is far too much seeking for excellence in our contemporary Classical music world. Nellie Melba and Adelina Patti would have been boo-ed off. But that wasn't the point. Those artists delivered what the audience expected of them in them days. In the interpretation of serious music we we do not need 'experts' - what we need is personalities and individualism.

came here from the piano version played by Beatrice Rana Liszt transcription. Text by Rückert whom I had heard about through a Cincinnati Orchestra production of the Mahler songs probably conducted by Thomas Schippers. The set design was pretty radical for Cincinnati and would have garnered disapproval from Hamilton co prosecutor Joe Deters.

Du meine Seele, du mein Herz, Du meine Wonn’, o du mein Schmerz, Du meine Welt, in der ich lebe, Mein Himmel du, darein ich schwebe, O du mein Grab, in das hinab Ich ewig meinen Kummer gab! Du bist die Ruh, du bist der Frieden, Du bist vom Himmel mir beschieden. Dass du mich liebst, macht mich mir wert, Dein Blick hat mich vor mir verklärt, Du hebst mich liebend über mich, Mein guter Geist, mein bess’res Ich!

Are Lieder for multi-tessitura? I mean, can the same Lied be sung from Soprano to Bass only arranging the score for each voice type? I don't know if I expressed myself correctly.
@jrthiker9908 Жыл бұрын
Yes! Any song can be done in any key to match the voice, from soprano to bass. In the old days they transposed everything. It's only post-WW2 that everyone gets too "urtext" with things. It's a lost art for most accompanists....you used to be expected to be able to transpose any song to any key at sight.

I think most of the famous lieder and arias from opera have been notated and published by major music publishers. Singers always want to sing great songs, even if not originally composed for their particular voice. And not too many pianist can transpose on the spot. Also singers themselves usually practice at the piano, playing the piano part as they sing along.
