One of the funniest things I ever saw is when Conan was in Chicago and had Jack McBrayer go to the Wiener Circle, which is a hot dog place where the staff is crass and rude. The staff is almost all African-American. Triumph showed up and was trading barbs with one of the female workers and then he says "you're like Nikki Minaj, except for the everything."

Following political candidates and bits at the conventions were great. Give Mike Huckabee and Roger Ailles credit, they played along with some insults for extended segments.

They were incredible! Shockingly good sports; Huckabee practically did a full routine with him. The Trump supporters at the inauguration were another example of huge fans loving being roasted, like the nerds. Smigel _hates_ Trump, and was brutal in a way that made his agenda clear; IMO this was one of the few times anyone has been talented enough to be that biased and still hilarious, and the Trump supporters helped by being great sports. OTOH the time he visited the college campus to roast political correctness was surprisingly, and shockingly, weak. The only time he hasn't been hilarious. And I suspect this may be because Smigel agrees with them too much; he said on an interview that he has no sympathy for comedians who complain that college students can't take a joke anymore and are too politically correct, that it is the comedian's job to entertain the audience as it is, and to change with the times. Personally I don't quite agree but think he makes a good point to think about; however, I do think that may have affected that segment.

Having watched Ed The Sock, the gruff, sarcastic, cigar chomping sock puppet on Canadian TV from 1995 to 2008, I find it hard to believe that Triumph's character, voice, and cigar didn't originate from seeing Ed - but I can understand why he wouldn't want to admit it. Just watch some "Ed The Sock" clips.

Ed the Sock seems pretty lame in comparison. Plus, the puppet character is superfluous. It's what he says that makes the act.
