Great film. When I was a boy my father told me the story of Robert the Bruce taking courage from watching the spider fail six time to land its web and then succeeding on the seventh try. Today I am in my ninth decade and we have the same fight for freedom in America against an enemy that has stealthily infiltrated us. I believe we will succeed.

OUTSTANDING casting, acting, location, cinematography and story-telling. This movie is great. It tells a kind of human story that history books often ignore. The tale of the spider is well incorporated into the larger story. Fun fact: The Douglas coat of arms features the heart of the Bruce. They are my family, my clan. In the make believe stories from film studios maybe. They were more concerned about killing each other and supported anyone that gave them the ability to get one up on other clans. Robert the Bruce, was not actually 'the Bruce' because his father was still alive and clan chief, also he had very little support from most of the clans, and only won because of the politics, infighting and weakness of the English monachy at the time of Bannockburn. Remember that Robert the Bruce and his clan changed sides on William Wallace and supported the English, which led to Wallace's capture and death, just for the promise of more land in England, support by the english verses a number of other clans, and support for them getting the crown of Scotland. He cared nothing about Scottish independence but rather clan dominance, land and wealth.

We can not even get insulted by a tech guy in India trying to brag how smart he is when his country has 4 rows outside on top of the train dangerously. Also, how the USA forgets their loved ones and chooses greed while letting enemies "run their army" because USA doesn't have enough faith to believe in "possession of souls" from the Middle East, then so be it. Live life, appreciate value on whats left or once existed then flick everyone off and say 'One throne world, lets die in vain from.stupidity' ... Amen

If you have not seen it...Black Sails....Captain Charles Vane played by the same guy that played the brother in Law that wanted the 50 pieces of gold for the king. His name is Jack McGowan. His acting in Black Sails series is superb.

As someone who was born and raised in England, I have visited and walked Scotland many times, watched the films and documentaries, read books about these heroes, and seen the statue of King Robert the Bruce and Braveheart. I've watched the British politics surrounding the independent wishes of Scottish Parliament and its country, and my only wish is that one day Scotland will have its independence. They just need to keep fighting for their freedom.

Great piece of history's accounting and glad to see the Brits once again were pushed out of a foreign land. Thank you for the upload, sure like history's pages like this one.

@JJM-qf8dz I think you mean the English, not the Brits.

A great film that tells as much of the story as it leaves out including Robert's Viking roots, albeit a slight nod when he exclaims that he's not going to Norway, but no mention made of where he actually did go.... Ireland. Other films celebrate the Knights Templar involvement in the 1314 Battle of Bannockburn, but I like the way they were left completely silent with only a mysterious hint about France being the likely source of the "sharpest sword in the world". The Bruce never owned a castle? Surely he took control of many lands and castle alike and bargained them away to gain support and raise that invisible army everyone was praying for.. A secret mercenary army procured by one of his most powerful allies, the Church... no offense to the fierce and brave men AND women of Scotland, after all, the Romans couldnt defeat them and had to build an enormous wall to protect themselves, but after 30 years of war with England, the Scots were simply outnumbered. This could not stop the fighting spirit of the Scottish clans from winning their independence, and their legend lives on.

Robert the Bruce was born in Scotland as was his mother, his father or grandfather arrived with William Duke of Normandy and destroyed the English in 1066, a lot of Nobles arrived in Scotland appears William Duke of Normandy loved the way the Scots and Picts fought against the Romans and Anglo Saxons as did Charlemagne the Holy Roman Emperor in the 6th century.

Great job does not cover it. No words do. Loved it when he was training the boy with a sward he told him not to let his anger do the fighting. Rage devours reason. Good fighting needs your reasoning in control and using the energy of controlled anger. That is Both in physical and verbal sparing.

I enjoyed this movie and learning more history of Scotland. I visited Scotland this past April 2023. Beautiful country. I will be visiting my ancestral home again. My DNA says that I am 48% Scottish. 13% on my fathers side and 35% on my mothers side. My Great-Grandmother was a Graham. We are direct decendants of Bonnie Dundee, Vise-count John Graham.

BS your DNA says no such thing. The genotypes are so mixed with different people that lived in Britain through out various invasions and migrations over the millenium. It certainly cannot state that you are 13% and 35%.....what idiocy and spectacular stupidity to actually believe such crap. 100% ignorant of how DNA works.

Very interesting for fans of Braveheart. There are some inaccuracies of course, for example, the family praying like Protestants, but there were no Protestants back then. It would be correct for them to do the sign of the cross at the beginning and end of the meal prayer.

An amazing film! Filming in the snow of February must have presented a lot of difficulties and hardships but the result is breathtaking! I can’t help but feel sorry for Scotland - every historical period features persecution, starvation, battles and death. Very sad.

The Scottish also helped in shaping this nation and in its fight for freedom centuries after this. Caldogn years later in which the Scottish lost against the English and were forbidden from wearing Kilts, practicing their culture, apeaking Gaelic; etc. assurdely played into the Scottish desire for freedom in what would later become the U.S.A...Imo.

I am a direct descendent of Alexander Kneeland, the uncle who raised William Wallace, and educated him abroad. He taught him to revere freedom, repeating a Latin verse I cannot at this moment remember. His son fought side by side with Wallace in every battle Wallace engaged in and supposedly received a Coat of Arms from the Bruce.
