I think the greatest love song ever recorded. The lyrics are sublime, her voice is of another Earth, the arrangement is sublime.

Hi Mo, that is one fantastic song from a wonderful singer, I think you would love Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water, the official video. The two songs have a similar vibe and Art Garfunkel has the best voice ever.

The first time ever I heard this song was almost 50 years ago. Everyone I knew had a similar reaction as you. The name Roberta Flack was held in the highest of esteem. She was and is in a class of her own and could be compared to no other artist. The song being featured in the Clint Eastwood movie “Play Misty For Me” didn’t hurt her exposure either. I was fortunate enough to see her in concert and she was spellbinding. Thank you for this.

This is a song I fell in love with as a kid. My folks played this song often and it still stands on it's own as one of the most beautiful love songs of all time. If a song and artist were ever meant to be one, this song and Roberta are just that. Perfection. I get chills throughout this song, and that does not happen often. Nat King Cole can have this same effect on me. He's another with vocals that are more instrument than vocal. Love this sappy stuff!!!!!

The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" is a 1957 folk song written by Scottish political singer/songwriter Ewan MacColl for Peggy Seeger, who later became his wife. At the time, the couple were lovers, although MacColl was still married to his second wife, Jean Newlove. Seeger sang the song when the duo performed in folk clubs around Britain. During the 1960s, it was recorded by various folk singers and became a major international hit for Roberta Flack in 1972

Written back in 1957 by Scottish songwriter Ewan MacColl for his wife Peggy Seeger. The song came to prominence in 1965 when Peter Paul and Mary first sung it live in a television concert. In 1971 Roberta Flack recorded the song for the Clint Eastwood movie "Play Misty For Me." The Roberta Flack cover of "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" won the Grammy Awards for best song and album of the year. The rest as they say is history.

This may be the best love song ever. Period. Full stop. Ewan McColl wrote it for the love of his life, Pete Seeger's daughter Peggy. His birth name was James "Jimmie" Henry Miller. The world lost a tremendously-gifted songwriter, singer, author, editor, actor, poet, activist and playwright when he died from complications following heart surgery on October 22nd, 1989. He was only 74. And, like Gordon Lightfoot, he lived his whole life without having ever written a bad song.

This was written by British folk singer Ewan MacColl in 1957 for his then lover Peggy Seeger. He wrote many political songs as he was a strong socialist but this song shows a very tender and poetical side to his nature. He was well known for hating all the covers of this song, including presumably this beautiful version.
