I think that’s an awesome way to tell the useless YT copyright music algorythm to f*** off.

Could an LFSR be implemented using a GAL?

Thank you very much for this video. Very comprehensive walkthrough. I had been looking around for this type of information. I am still looking for information and examples on combinational logic on platforms such as WinCUPL. Keep up with the great work 😁

I was always curious about the internals of these chips. Thank you. PS. Intro song is great

and I have already purchased 5 before the video ended, very cool!!

the chips themselves are cheap. The programming rig is much less... But the real pain is the windows-based software.

I have a VP598 and it programs ATF22V10s just fine. Mine is running firmware 8.1, if you haven’t already perhaps you should try updating your programmer’s firmware?

Gals were awesome and “dip”...making them breadboardable. Easier learning curve than fpga....

Awesome video ! I had a wornout PAL book with the "dude", when I was a teen :-D Daaaamn that looked so complicated to tiny me in the early 90s... Where is Actel/Microsemi ? :-P Damned win-only software..... this is why I started making my own PROM burner recently :-D I can't wait for the next episodes :-D

At the risk of offending... Actel was too minor to add to the diagram. It was filling up too fast!

Hi, it is possible to copy data from GAL
@tRRkvlt4 жыл бұрын
Have not finished watching yet but is it possible to reverse engineer a GAL somehow? Would it be a brute force task? Or is there anything more sophisticated?
@RobertBaruch4 жыл бұрын
A PAL, yes, because that uses fuses that you can see. A GAL, no, because that is erasable, meaning the connections are based on charge, which you cannot see. If the GAL is purely combinatorial, then you can probe all combinations, but if not, then it is a much much harder task.

do you still use your programmer?

mm I've never had a problem programming any of my ATF16V8s with the minipro/wincupl. Also, both minipro and wincupl work fine with wine under linux.

But it doesnt do the 22V10, correct? I have TL866, but since it doesnt do the 22V10 I am looking to replace it with something that does. And now it seems that the VP-598 has a bug and cant do them either. :-(
@meslud6 жыл бұрын
yeah it seems that way. thanks to this video I have done my own research. it's sad, because I've just ordered a few 22V10s a few days before...

There's also a third kind of "GAL" (though technically more of a CPLD): The ATF2500C. Still in production, according to Microchip. i.imgur.com/U3lOmNe.png
