I've been starting to long for the handheld weight of the camcorder again - it's a different kind of filming experience and i miss it.

@@craigw.scribner6490 you have a fantastic camera. HC-X2 has a little advantage in terms of optical zoom but Canon is fare ahead. Sony will be a great camera but I doubt this is going to be enough for you to change camera.

I miss the old school glory of professional camcorders!!! I still use a couple of Canon XF300 for live events and Sony FX30 and FX3 for most other events like weddings and corporate videos...but I'm glad to see Sony bringing out the z200...I can't afford the Z280 and that one has even smaller sensors..so...I hope to see reviews with footage comparing the Z200 against the Canon XF605...I dont expect APSC video quality but a big improvement over the older camcorders like my XF300...every tool has its use...thanks for the video

I'm the proud owner of the Panasonic HC-X20. I watched your older videos before making my purchase decision, and I'm quite pleased with my camera. I do somewhat regret not getting the CX350, but I'm liking my HC-X20 more and more as I use it. I can't wait to see a comparison between Sony, Canon, and Panasonic. That said, I appreciate you covering these camcorders!

I love camcorders...they are way more useful than people make them out to be and the biggest mistake Sony (or the smartest move depending on how you see it) was inviting a bunch of influencers out to see the new cameras. Hey, at least they got people talking about them which is a boss move in my opinion. For video...shallow depth of field isn't all that important. It can be a useful tool, but not absolutely necessary!
@davefink2326Ай бұрын
You have to slog your way through hours and hours of Steven Spielberg footage to spot even an instance of shallow field depth.

Canon xf605 has a variable aperture f2.8- f4.5. I was checked once. Not a constant aperture f2.8
@LMActionsports3 ай бұрын
Yeah I was under the impression that it was an F2.8 constant aperture also because I’m pretty sure somebody said that in their KZbin review and I almost pulled the trigger a week ago on buying one and it says in the specs it goes up to F4.5. I don’t know if that is in the extended zoom or not.
@LMActionsports3 ай бұрын
I just pulled the trigger after watching your video and went with the nx800. Like you said I do not use time code or SDI. I am a solo shooter. And the NX 800 will be just fine. I almost pulled the trigger on a canon XF605 last week when I saw that Sony came out with two new camcorders. I am a professional photographer and I use Sony already. I am getting into the video side and want to start recording ATV and dirtbike races and the camper with it zoom reach will be a lot better than using my FX 30. So staying in the same ecosystem and already knowing how good they’re auto focus is. I have the Sony a7rv and A7iv and the focus tracking is phenomenal. I already have a bunch of. CFexpress type A cards so I will be good. I got nothing against any of the other camcorders. They are all phenomenal but staying with Sony will be a lot easier. Great video by the way thank you for sharing. I am now subscribed.
@daltonrandall4348Ай бұрын
The two rings on the camera are zoom and focus, they didn't get rid of a focus ring and say "rely on autofocus!" lol. The iris ring moved to an iris dial, which is right at the front of the control section near the other rings. It's totally usable in this state, and this is essentially a non-issue.

Concerning camcorder (and similar) tests, I love to hear your perspective on the older DVX200 as well as the also older Panasonic FZ2500 and Sony RX10 IV bridge cameras. I'm particularly interested in how the larger sensor DVX200 image quality compares to the current 1" sensor camcorder offerings from Panasonic. Finally, is there much, if any image quality improvement between the current Panasonic 1" camcorders and the previous ones, like the UX-180, etc. Looking to make a purchase so any feedback is appreciated.

I don't rely on that site for specs, not only missing information they could easily add but also wrong information. Anyway, currently using the Panasonic HC-X2 and I think it's great. I've been looking at the Sony PXW-Z200 to replace it, not sure if it's worth the upgrade.
@alonzojt4 ай бұрын
These cameras are replacing the Z150 and the Z190. Only the Z280 is not discontinued at the moment. I’ve had the chance to have them in my hands and they’re light, well balanced and lenses are great. Yes, I missed the third ring but autofocus seems very fast and accurate. We shot a short video that’s already online and first impressions are good. We will test them as soon as we have a finalized unit.

The Canon XF605 actually supports 6 channel audio. 2x XLR, one 3.5 stereo mini jack plus the onboard stereo mics can all be recorded simultaneously!

Nope! It can record 4 channels ONLY, but you can choose which dual channel pairs you want to use. Any 2 pairs only!

Nobody did a low light test till now. Will not be getting this cam until it has been proven to be stellar in low light. Z190 is garbage in low light which I sell away to get z280 instead and never looked back.

Is the Z280 so much better than the Z200? I want to replace some old Canon XF300 camcorders I use for live events. I almost purchased a XF605- but I rented one and I didn't feel it was so MUCH better than my older XF300...I really hope this Z200 has MUCH better pic quality. I need it for live events and church ceremonies-not in the dark-there is ok light in those situations. I can't afford the Z280 and those have even smaller sensors...

From what I've seen the image quality is on par with the other 1" camcorders in the market. I do like eVND, 4k sdi, and timecode. Sony has nice camera control app that can run on phones, ipad, and some monitors. Overall the feature to value is reasonable and in general more well thought out than Panasonic. A few things I don't like, slow variable aperture lens that are on all these camcorders, bad placement of mic/line/phantom controls under the xlr inputs, no aperture ring on the lens, the active stabilization looked bad, the slog is noisy. I don't know why it took this long for Sony to release a competitive pro level 1" camcorder. It would be nice to pair with my FX30 but not worth the cost of switching if image quality is the same to what I already own.
@shem444 ай бұрын
it is 1" sensor. F2.8 lens is perfectly ok considering it needs to zoom 20x. Anything faster requires a big lens which will not be practical in use and costs. Otherwise they have to reduce the zoom range.

@zyxyuv16504 ай бұрын
What is the point of the 1" sensor? I'm not able to understand the purpose of having a small sensor. Why do newscasters and camcorders need less light? You already have a built-in ND so it's not like you need less light. I guess the problem is that they can't give you a bigger sensor because then it would be a cinema camera? So this camera exists only for the purpose of artificial market limitation tiering. Very strange
@RobertHamm4 ай бұрын
If that's the case, then why do you have a camera on your phone? What's the purpose of the camera on a phone? It serves no purpose. Why would you want to let in less light? Why would you want a smaller sensor on your cell phone? Why not just put a full frame sensor on your cell phone? In fact, if chasing light is what you're talking about, why not put medium format sensors on all cameras? Why even sell full frame cameras? Why even sell micro four-thirds cameras, or APS-C cameras? It seems like just artificial market inflation for no reason. You should only sell telescope size gigantic lens huge 1-ft sensor cameras. No one needs anything less. It'd be impractical to have a sensor with a lens optimized for 24 mm to 480 mm from f 2.8 to F4 with every codec you want under the sun and pro audio specs built into it in an easy to use run and a gun package. Especially for around 3,500 bucks. Why not just use a medium format camera with a 24-480mm that would only cost 20 grand. Yeah, that makes sense.
@shem444 ай бұрын
Because big sensor means u need bigger lens to cover the sensor to achieve the 20x zoom. U don't ever see 20x zoom in s35 or ff camera. In addition it allows deeper DOF which is desirable for sports or stage events etc because u don't want to hunt for critical focus for everything u shoot. Everyone wants more light but not always big sensor. Use the right tool for the right job.
@samueldickes4 ай бұрын
Well, this person doesn’t know anything about news shooting. Normally it’s less important to have bokeh, but you need to be very fast and not mess around with lenses, external ND filters and all important commands on buttons and dials in order to be fast. And one of the most important features is to have a super zoom. Image quality is not so important in news, you need to get the shot fast!

@RobertHamm4 ай бұрын
People get so caught up in bokeh.. It's not the end-all be all, you know. Plus, I can get some great shallow depth of field on a 1-in camera simply by zooming into the subject and being relatively close to it. You know, like a tight shot at a high zoom. When you need a camcorder, nothing else will do. Most people don't need a camcorder, though. I wouldn't trade mine for anything.
