Use to work on military aircraft. We used special paint that cut through the wind really well decreasing drag. It's a small detail but a complement to your foil upgrade for those who will make one.

@@ThinkingandTinkering Are you familiar with researchGate? They have some amazing research articles but the articles come from independents. Any ideas how to break through their gatekeepers so I can read their research articles? They are being pretty stingy ATM and their are some articles I really need to research there. I figure you probably are a member. Granted I don't ever publish research but I research daily and I'm in need.

Guess it needs to be said, those special paints were highly highly toxic. Hopefully new tech has resolved that issue. Idk. It's been a long time.

if greater accuracy is desired; print or cut some rib profiles, can also create recesses in the ribs to accept lateral/horizontal supports that span between the rib profiles.

Great to know it was a naca0015 at 3mm, got it. I never knew that what we made was a classed naca profile, very cool, we used to use the green Duraglass/Dura bond for the ends. The foam core in a can I like to use as a filler like that, in pvc /abs sometimes aswell👍. Thanks Robert for that nice build instruct. I always did like a Darius, especially like the working model you set up and how it decided to create it self a trailing edge at about 11:00 at the top of the air foil mounted... I do wonder why I decided to drag the top instead of the bottom behind, I wonder if it would want to do that every time one would build one...

Another good skin material is from the stainless-steel kitchen pedal-bins (tons are discarded everyday). And you can make a spot-welder from a MOT to tack the trailing edge together.

You can use posterboard instead of aluminum. Make airfoil shaped ribs, connect them with dowel spars. Glue the posterboard onto the ribs. Then cover with fiberglass fabric and coat with resin. My first vawt was made that way.

A close replication with the manual bend on the sheet... but, a few teardrop inserts - matching the exact dimensions and shape of the printout - would be a great addition. Prebend the sheet, then open it enough to screw a row of inserts down the inside face of one edge, then bend it all down again and pop in some screws down the opposing face. Much like you'd do to build a boat.

You could use your fancy-pancy 3D printer to print internal supports to make it 1:1 the intended profile. Maybe even just to use the aluminium, paper or whatever as a mold for that expanding goo stuff.

Awesome! Know you are near mine ideals! The wings form is right but the center is shallow and is lika an J in profil like a planewing and it goes diagonally to the center and work like a propellerfan/darrius/savonius! Now the airstream is pushed to the center of the VAWT an pushed downwards! under one more sitting on two bicicleweels! You can ask why! If you works in winds from 0.5 to 8 m/s! The torque is in max and the speed of the air! to increase a bit more If this is in a barrel/pipe with right openings! You can force the wind in a Wirlwind and near double the windspeed in the aero-powerplant! between the to VAWT the generator is! If you want double ones more the output take one weel more and like a Dukted Fan works wonderful!

You didn't explain what 0015 means?
@clickbaitnumberone14033 жыл бұрын
Wait, the shape of the must not be equal, must it? It has to be higher on the one side to create negative pressure to lift the plane upwards, in this case outwards. So if the shape of the wing is equal, it doesnt make any speed..or less at least
@ThinkingandTinkering3 жыл бұрын
a NACA 0015 profile has been used before mate it is supposed to give high torque - you can find quite a lot of research on the use of NACA profiles for designing gyro mill blades. What I was contemplating was a Wells turbine - remember that has an equal profile too - I wonder If the NACA0015 would be good for that
@clickbaitnumberone14033 жыл бұрын
@@ThinkingandTinkering Ah I think I got it now. In contrast to airplanes, the windturbines move in a circular way which means the outer side has to move a longer way than the inner side of the profile. So that is the reason why there is created a negative pressure on the outside with equal profiles...

Dear Sir, may I be your apprentice? I would have to move from Melbourne Australia, but it would be well worth it :) :)

Hi Robert, could you please prove that the turbine started on its own or did you do the initial spin by hand? How long has it been spinning? What was the wind speed?
@scotttovey3 жыл бұрын
If Robert had to start that turbine by hand; he would have scrapped it as a valid design potential and mentioned it in the video.

it is just a Darrieus type mate - strictly a Gyromill - beyond the fact we made the NACA0015 profile by hand there is nothing special about it.
@darkdoesnotmatter71673 жыл бұрын
@@ThinkingandTinkering Darrieus starts on some wind velocity (depending on the NACA profile). From the video I am not able to tip the speed (but camera is shaking). I've built similary sized turbine even with less weight than you are, but it did not started. That is the reason, why I am asking if there was an initial spin by hand and if it continued to spin after the possible "initial spin energy" has been consumed. I definitely appreciate your invention how to really simply create an airfoil!
