The Dread Mad Scientist Robert is a wizard as well. It is like you conjure fresh water out of the air. Even more powerful, you conjure fresh water out of a vacuum… out of nothing. I really enjoyed this KZbin!

Boiling the water in a vacuum for desalination, awesome concept. Instead of plastic, I am going to use old computer equipment . I like using the aluminum platters from old desktop hard drives for projects like this and I have built a tesla turbine with them. I even used the spacers and electric motors in the drives to make the tesla turbine into a generator. My issue has always been building the case that makes up the body of the unit, I never thought of laminating plastic but it makes sense. In the past I have tried bamboo from bamboo flooring, 4 inch drain pipe cut compressed into a small diameter, metal pipes of different diameter but laminating plastic never came to mind. Thank you!

Love this idea! It's essentially using outside energy to create a cold steam pump which is awesome. I think it might be possible to use this as a desalination device and a generator concurrently. If a heat differental was setup between the input and output, then a Tesla pump was added to the same shaft of the turbine, you would essentially have a heat engine generator and desalinatior. I may have bungled the explanation, but I'm basically combining the main ideas presented in this video with some newer videos from the channel IEnergySupply. Anyways, great video as always! I'm truly amazed at the value brought forth by this channel and the great minds that run it
Brilliant except the boot lace broken moment made me laugh out loud. Its a wonderful project Robert thanks for sharing this l am fascinated entertained and inspired by all your wonderful projects.

Bravo! Now that you have a Tesla Turbine on your bench I shall repeat myself... Way back I posted that I would love to see the T. Turbine with the blades coated with your SWAG ink - voltage potential is proportional to velocity. Maybe do a run through with the ink, let it dry, presto! Conductive ink coated turbine.. Not sure where you would place connections to check output, but since you have all of the materials on hand - I figure you are the best man for the job. I know you are a busy man and I promise not to pester... Cheers!

I think, if I recall rightly, Robert can leave his lathe chuck key in the chuck because he has a very clever lathe that won’t start if the chuck key is in place. That’s why he is able to safely leave the key in the chuck.

OK here's a suggestion you can use. Go to your pound store. We have the 99 cent only store here. Get a vacuum cleaner belt . They come in flat band belts or round ones. The flat ones could be turned into a few thinner belts that would take the stresses of running at high speeds. And they will be cheap.

Hi Robert, just seeing this in my feed. Fascinating. Is it just me or do you tend 'get it right' the first time often with your one-off manufacturing? This is an amazing tool. So i have studied this tesla turbine for practicalities and unless i am mistaken, the power required to obtain this ridiculous RPM is what makes it so special, therefore making this a potentially viable method of desalination.... Have you done anything more with this in the intervening 5 years?

Interesting to build a Tesla turbine just to pull a vacuum on the flask to cause the water to boil. Hmmm... Intriguing project and good shop work. I think I would be more inclined to purchase a vacuum pump (I was looking at some a few weeks ago on the surplus market at very reasonable prices), unless part of the challenge was to make a project using a Tesla turbine. I assume the point was to distill water, since making a desalination system was mentioned. I really like the use of a vacuum to boil the water rather than heat. Pressure modification could certainly have advantages if you were working with heat sensitive chemicals. Thank you for providing several thought provoking directions to pursue! OH, I almost forgot to ask. How did the discs hold up in the turbine over time? It sounded as if you were limiting the running RPM, which would get past the notorious "discs flying to pieces" issue associated with the Teala turbines, but I wondered about long duration stress. Thanks.

Excellent work. It's amazing what you can do with just a few tools and some creativity. Virtually everyone can afford a vacuum pump. I would use a piston pump, diaphragm, or aspirator pump as the roughing pump, then use the Tesla as the roots blower. A little edwards vacuum pump system, which you don't have to give up a months pay for. The lathe trick is like on a wood lathe, where you could attach the razor to a wooden handle and use a support, or one could mount it to a grinder motor and do the same thing. This looks like such fun. I might be tempted to mount an electrostatic motor to the Tesla turbine to drive it, and use a lord kevin's thunderbolt, from the condensing water vapor to drive it. Electrostatic motors are ideal for this type of application whereby you want high speed but do not need high torque.
@ThinkingandTinkering9 жыл бұрын
i like the motor idea - I have been looking for an excuse to make one lol

Approximately how much more efficient is the Tesla pump method of boiling, than using a heating element? WattHours per gallon is the question, I suppose. I know further testing has to be done, but, just a ballpark figure. I presume you initially perceived a benefit significant enough to warrant investigation.
