him and cafu (his brazilian RB partner) revolutionised the fullback position, so now you see fullbacks have to be good attacking as well as defending, before they prioritised defending
@luccavalentinw.fiorini23023 жыл бұрын
Even before Roberto Carlos there was Nilton Santos in 1958 that was a LB and was the First LB to go to the attack, the opposite teams did not expect that and that's why he and Djalma Santos (that was the RB of the Brazil National's team n 1958-1962) were so good, both went forward, but when one of them was attackin the other would stay on defense... This was later used by a lot of teams in 1966-1970 and so on... In 1970 when Brazil won for the 3x time the LB wasn't so good at attacking, so Carlos Alberto Torres who was the captain had to always go to the attacking and since he was insanely good at both defending and attacking he did the job well done (he is the one who scored the last goal on the final, Brazil 4 -1 Italy)
@luccavalentinw.fiorini23023 жыл бұрын
Nilton Santos is commonly know as "encyclopedia" because he could play on every part of defense (LB,CB,RB) on the Milfield (CDM,CM,LM,RM) and since he participated a lot on attacks on the left side you could say he would've done a great LW too

@@feliiciacisterna He wasnt as good as Roberto Carlos indeed, Roberto Carlos was 2nd if the Ballon D'Or voting in 2002 as a LB, ahead of Henry, Zidane, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Beckham, Oliver Kahn and many others... He was THE best.offensive LB of all time (if we pick the best defensive LB it would be Maldini). BUT he did not change the game as much as Nilton Santos, the guy is considered the 3rd most IMPORTANT of football history that comes from Brazil (only behind Pelé and Ronaldo), he is ahead of Ronaldinho, Garrincha, Zico and many others. The way he played is almost the same as the today LB/RB, he renewed a position that its still considered modern today and he did that on the late 50s. Of course many players changed the game entirely or on a position. Pelé, Maradona, Cruyff, Backenbauer, Di Stefano, Lev Yashin, Puskas, Van Basten, Romário, Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Daniel Passarela and legends as such. The ones who did it first usually are more remembered, because they had to INVENT. So, Pelé, Di Stéfano, Cruyff, Lev Yashin, Nilton Santos and Backenbauer who changed a position forever have a high consideration for the Football World

When he was at a free kick near the box with a wall of players defending the goal, at the moment Roberto Carlos takes that shot all players will cover everything what is precious to them, one time he even directly hit a player and they had to take a break for a moment. I'd say he is the best leftback when it to attacking, he is like th e OG version of a Trent Alexander-Arnorld. Brazil has a tradition of left-backs. Newton Santos, Nelinho, Branco (Roberto Carlos before Roberto Carlos)... all skilled with powerful kicks. We are going through an off season of players in this position because Marcelo is at the end of his career and we don't have a successor. Branco had a powerful left kick that knocked out a Scottish player in the 90's world cup, the boy ended up in the emergency room with a concussion. The left-back in Brazil acts like a winger in basketball. He moves along the side of the field from one back line to another, confusing and overloading the opposing defense. He is a rare type of player in the rest of the world but has always been used a lot in Brazil.

@slayerizado lol better at "tiki taka" is a reach. It's not a skill. As I said carlos has scored goals with his right something Marcelo hasn't done. He was a really good attacking defender. He was not even close to being a great dribbler (just look how far he allows the ball to be from him), but he had the speed to get to it, and had an incredibly powerful left foot. As a defender he couldn't compete with the goal production of an attacker, and on defense, he was not one of the best at defending. So essentially he was very good at many things, but not one of the best at any particular area. It's not like any team spent nights wondering "how are we going to stop Roberto Carlos"! And that's the problem with trying to rank him as a GOAT or even one notch below.
