Video playback isn't great on the MacBook because it's limited to 30hz @ 4k. You can hack it to work at 60hz. There are a lot of cheap USB-C PC docking stations out there like the Wavlink. For the newer Macs, you are better off buying a docking station made for a Mac, using Thunderbolt 3. The CalDigit TS3 is fantastic for any newer MacBook Pros and MacBook. It provides 4k @ 60hz, and 85w charging for the 15" Touchbar MacBook Pro. Belkin and OWC stations are great as well.

I'm thinking that the performance issues with playing high resolution video is not due to the USB connection, though rather because of the DisplayLink chip in the dock. To play video on 2 x 4k monitors is not really a simple task.

I was looking at this product now, only to find the review on this alrdy available since 2017! Btw, nice review and advice. Very precise and straight to the point. I'm looking not only 2 but 3 extended LCD display for my HP laptop, 1 from the HDMI port of my laptop which I will use as main display and another 2 LCD from this hub connecting to the laptop 3.0 USB-A port, to serve as my 2 other extended desktops. The main LCD I will use to watch video and the other 2 for work purposes where my work often requires me to compare 2 documents side by side. Will there be image lag if the hub were to read data from external HDD connected to one of the USB3.0 port of that hub. Would you recommend such installation?

I just want a Dock station to work, no videos 4K ... just office stuff and I got the Plugable USB 3.0 Universal Laptop Docking Station for Windows (Dual Video HDMI and DVI/VGA, Gigabit Ethernet, Audio, 6 USB Ports) from Amazon and it kept lacking all the time on my second screen, can you tell me if this on you are showing is working better

Did not know this is that old. I have a WL-UG69DK1 and MacBook Pro 2019 16". I did not get it to work. It is not charging with apple cable or own. So after all it looks like I bought this for fun. Drivers from Wavlink do not include 2019 MacBook Pro. Somehow I installed some driver from their homepage for OS .... till 10.8. Any idea how to save my day?

I bought it. 1. I have no cd drive to use their driver. 2. Their driver site doesn't work at all, can't download shit there. 3. it's not working on Ubuntu at all.

I hacked it and made it work for both windows and ubuntu that support 3 monitors. However, it start to lag when watching a video. so I returned it. I bought a TB3 to 2 hdmi and it works perfect without lagging experience for both window, ubuntu and Mac. and it's half price cheaper. I would say never buy a dock station that use displaylink chip. Not going to work well with linux.

crap junk software will not open and display port legs my games real bad not for gameing thats for sure i be in middle of gameing and my keyboard will just turn off disconnect from windows this thing is awfull tons of issuses 30hz on 4k ? lol to funny
