Beautiful "stain" technique. I've never seen that done before. I can't wait to try it out. Thanks!

Beautifully shaped platter. I'm still working on my muscle memory to get that fine control you exhibited. The texturing really adds interest to a rather plain grain. I'd not seen resin wood used to color the texture...neat idea. My first platter blank is awaiting its turn on the lathe. Good info I can use; thanks.

I just ordered my first lathe and several Sorby tools this week. I should like to try this project over the summer! Thank you for posting this video.

an absolutely fantastic platter. I wondered if a spindle gouge could be used for a lot of the job that the bowl gouge was used for because I don't have a bowl gouge like that.

We would advise that you use the tools recommended. It makes life much easier especially when you're starting out. Bowl gouges come in all sizes and can be picked up relatively inexpensively. Go to our website to request a free catalogue www.robert-sorby.co.uk

So about a month ago I decided I wanted to make wooden ear plugs for stretched ears. That led me to working with a lathe, anyways I fell inlove! I am about to buy a new lathe and a new chuck and tools. I been making all types of stuff even without a chuck. I can not wait I hope to be as good as you one day. I also plan on buying your all in 1 sharpening system. I figured hell it comes with everything not just for turning tools but all types of stuff for sharpening. I am gonna use that to make money sharpening stuff for people. Do you have a group or forum by any chance? I would love to join up with a bunch of people and just talk and be apart of something fun. And the platter is beautiful!
