I wash my makeup brushes RELIGIOUSLY. I once had an eye infection and my eye swelled shut..... 5 days before I was to be married! (I picked up a bacterial infection and for whatever reason it effected my eye first. I got antibiotics and eye drops and it cleared up in time for the wedding!) That chaos made me REALLY CRAZY CAREFUL about my eyes and how to keep them healthy.

I wash my natural hair expensive brushes every other time or even every time. I know they might not last as long but I can't deal with them not being "clean" or the pigments mixing either. They say to wash them once a month. I cannot NOT wash my brushes either 😂 I also use conditioner after cleansing and it does help keep them soft tho

I agree, a video about what kinds of brushes are, do they really only work for one thing or are they good for a variety of products and applications? I really want to know about makes a "good" makeup brush? How do you know if it's a good quality brush or just an expensive one?

When I was a teenager I had this big fluffy powder brush that I just loved and it was so cute, but I was in a pinch to get it dry for the next day's makeup so I tried to use a hairdryer on high heat to dry it.... Bless my heart... The ends of the bristles fried and curled up and got crunchy! It was awful. I practically had to give it a funeral to have the courage to get rid of it lol Thank you for this video! I'm much smarter about these things now that I'm older thankfully, but I did learn some bits from this! ❤

The glue aside, it’s a bad idea if you want to keep it

She has the BEST brush reviews and tutorials. I started to learn about, appreciate, and buy Fude brushes and you’d better believe I learned how to clean them. Since I have several of each kind now as well as several sets- ( Sonya G., Wayne Goss, and Sigma, including your brush set ( I LOVE the 4DHD precision). I can go a week and not clean them. Every weekend I take the group of used ones and do my little cleaning ritual and actually enjoy it. ( mind you, I’m retired) I let them hang in the holder for at least 48 hours. Thanks for the sink hint.I was using a shallow bowl and changed the water 2-3 times. Your idea is easier.

Fun lil hack to hang your brushes: use a hair tie and loop it around the brush and attach it to a bar or handle or towel rack etc. loop it once around the brush, pull the hair tie behind the horizontal bar of choice, then loop it back again onto the brush. It’ll hold it upside down perfectly so the glue doesn’t get messed up and it dries properly.

My friend has been washing her makeup brushes by putting water and soap in a bowl and just tossing all her brushes into it and soaking them like 4" deep in the soapy water for like 30+ mins and then rinsing them, and it drives me crazy!!!! I keep telling her it's going to ruin the brushes and now she's actually seeing the bristles and tops falling off and the wooden handles splitting, but still won't stop because she thinks this is how you're supposed to clean them. I'm going to make her watch this video and hopefully Robert can talk some sense into her. It breaks my heart to see these nice brushes literally cracking, splintering, and basically rotting from the inside.

There is only one thing I could bring up... Look into what your brush cleansers are. This isn't a problem for everyone. It was for me. If your skin is very sensitive to certain ingredients, you may not do well with your brush shampoo. I share a small bit of my face cleanser since I'm acne prone and allergic to most common ingredients in skincare and soap. Aloe, coconut, and rose are the bane of my existence so that means my brushes take a little swish in my own face cleanser or baby shampoo. My synthetic brushes tend to look "fried" after about three years of use. My secret is discount conditioner or a hair mask. I leave it in like you would a hair treatment and rinse so about three to fifteen minutes. That's it. My oldest brush is from when I was eighteen years old. I'm thirty now. It's well loved and very pampered.

And also the act of wringing out the sponges can drive one crazy after a while.

Omg, so glad you did a video on this. I got a staph infection on my lips from my Dentist. Been dealing with flare ups of it for 3 years ever since. When I use a new lip product, and when I go back to use it again, I get a flare up. It's gotten to the point where I only use Vanicream Ointment on my lips now. So whenever I use a lip product, I clean the back of my hand with alcohol and dispense the product there and then use the product from my hand. It's kind of annoying because Idk what will make my lips flare up, it can be anything so it's a lot of cleaning my hand, alcohol, dispense, use and repeat with foundation, concealer, etc. I guess I can get one of those makeup trays, more Hygiene and easy to clean. I'm just a very hygienic person and makeup is not in some ways. Like it gets everywhere lol. I don't wear make-up because of fear my lips will flare up but I want to so, I'm glad you made this video. I've heard using an alcohol spray on your products sanitizes them after you scrap off the top part. Idk if that's true. I'll definitely be digging through this comment section lol Thanks again Robert!!! You are literally THEE BEST! 👉👈

About a year ago I ran into a lady doing her laundry in my apt building’s laundromat. I had to do a double take...I kid you not, this woman had probably at least 15 makeup brushes shoved into one of those mesh lingerie bags.😳You know... THAT YOU WASH YOUR LINGERIE IN! She proceeded to tell me what a brilliant idea that she had to do this. I said that I’d stick to washing mine by hand every week.😏 Not only did she toss them in the washer, she also put them in the dryer afterwards!😳 Those things looked like mini porcupines on the end of sticks!🤣 I have no idea if she still washes/dries her brushes this way but I can guarantee they probably didn’t last very long! Not to mention, I’m sure it left all kinds of detergent and fabric softener residue all over them!😝 ***One little trick that I do when drying my brushes... You know the wired metal cooling racks that you put baked cookies, pastries, etc. to cool off on? I lay my brushes on the edge of them. The rack is elevated by about 2” and I put the brushes all around the perimeter of the rectangle with the bristles/hair hanging off. It gets air circulating 360* and with them laying sideways, no water goes down into where the adhesive is. 🖤💜 My Sigma Robert Welsh Favorites brushes I wash like they are a newborn baby’s eyelashes!😁🖤💜

DONT SOUP YOUR BRUSHES!! 😄 You want to treat them like two of your favorite brushes had a baby and you are giving it its first bath. 🥰 I love that soo much. You are so fabulous, Robert. 😘

This has been the most helpful video!!! I can never get my brushes clean! I'm now motivated to go clean all of my brushes! Thank you for existing Robert!!!

I use a microfiber cloth to gently knock powder off my brushes before I wash them. I don't really like the color switches because they get dirty and washing them is a pain in the ass. I'll keep a cloth on hand for doing my makeup too so I can quickly change colors. It's all personal preferences though. 🖤🖤

I usually dry my brushes by gently and repeatedly sweeping them across a towel. It works well and I’ve never had any problems with them shedding bristles or breaking, and I wash my brushes all my brushes once a week.

I use a shampoo brush to clean my makeup brushes, I pour lil bit of shampoo on it and then rub the makeup brushes against it in up and down and circle motion, idk if it's too rough for the brushes but at least they get clean!😂

I spent $40 on one of those electric brush cleaners and it ruined one of my favorite brushes. It didn’t even dry it properly. I use my scrubbing mat and let them dry flat.
