Local Coin Shop Pickup and a Junk Silver Hunt! Since I have had several requests for me to do another local coin shop (LCS) pickup video, as well as a junk silver purchase and hunt, I decided to go to my Local Coin Shop and kill 2 birds with one stone! I grabbed all of the available Ben Franklin and Walking Liberty half dollars he had, as well as 160 Mercury dimes which he hadn't "gone through" yet - which I figured was a ploy for me to purchase them but it ended up being the case as I scored a nice semi-key date Mercury Dime! Hopefully you all enjoy this video as I ended up having some really good coins and a few semi-key date coins! 1926 S Mercury Dime in EF-AU condition? What? I may also hit up some pawn shops and thrift stores to see if there are any hidden treasures hanging out in there too! As always - Happy Hunting and Thanks for Watching AND keep Stacking that silver my friends!!! Great score on the constitutional silver, Rob! Walkers are a personal favorite of mine. Also wanted to thank you for the currency hunting videos. I decided to lookup the value of my star notes. Most were part of a 3.2 million print run, but I did have a $100 bill and a couple $1 bills with a 640,000 print run. Then the cream of the crop turned out to be a $2 bill with a 320,000 print run and a 1999 series $5 bill with a print run of just 35,200 notes. Keep up the informational videos!

The axe on the back of "Mercury" dimes is called a fasces, the root word of "fascism." That's why the Mint was so eager to change the reverse of the dime right after fascism was defeated in WW2. FDR passing away gave them a great opportunity to redesign the dime!

I definitely believe that is a clipped planchet. And the one piece that is jewelry made that's got to be silver solder on there, so there's a little brass if you look real close with a magnifying glass. My best Mercury Dime find was when we found all those pay phones in the scrap yard, they were mostly 1940s.

I love junk silver. I always buy some when I have extra money. Who you going with when grading coins (NGC,PCGS,ANACS)? And why you choose them? Hey Rob, you should do a video of the coins you sent out for grading. What you expect to get and what they graded at.
@RobFindsTreasure6 жыл бұрын
Oscar's Collection I would likely use ANACS or NGC for cost or marginal coins. For serious grades or ones I expect would fetch high grade and value I’d likely use PCGS.

Where do you get your books for the coins from or what type of books are they?
@jakematula41196 жыл бұрын
Idk if I’d call it a ef 40, I’m not the best at grading but I would say 30 to 35 just cause the scratches are a little excessive. I would send it to anacs just cause it’s cheaper and if you get a 40 from them then send it to ngc or pcgs
@RobFindsTreasure6 жыл бұрын
Quick Silver I agree - those darn scratches under the scope hurt me. It looks great in the flip though!
@jakematula41196 жыл бұрын
RobFindsTreasure I bet it does. What the graders look under a 7x to 10x magnifying glass. I would shoot a little lower than what you expect, just to be safe. That’s why I think you should send it to anacs first so you don’t don’t waste money if you get a lower grade

Remember that when grading, the obverse is much more important than the reverse. A bad obverse will really sink this grade, and that is if it doesn't get a details grade. It will almost certainly get a details grade. Nice find for junk price, though
@RobFindsTreasure6 жыл бұрын
You think it would get a "scratched" with EF Details? or a VF grade. I must admit, once I got it under the scope I was depressed since it looked so much better in my hand.
@lukewebster18166 жыл бұрын
@@RobFindsTreasure I would say, probably VF.
@lukewebster18166 жыл бұрын
It would get a low VF in my opinion because the scratches are not superbly easy to spot with the naked eye, and there isn't one deep gouge that stands out on the surfaces of the coin. The scratches do bring down the grade somewhat, however
@lukewebster18166 жыл бұрын
For a second opinion, go to one of the online forums and ask them their opinion. There are some very intelligent people who really want to help out

The scratches are not deep and more cosmetic - they look bad under the scope but I don't think it would get a "scratched" designation personally. Could be wrong. But it has way better eye appeal and no deep scratches compared to most that are scratched.

Old US silver coins are in such a heavy worn state, funny how you basically still keep them in circulation, I wonder what is the reason for it? It would be quite easy to separate the old coins from the new ones, them being silver and all. All other countries take the old coins out of circulation, at least I think so.
