Echoes of the Vietnam War Podcast | Full Interviews from Episode 48: "Humping the Boonies"

Of the 58,281 names on the wall, two-thirds of them died in 1967, ‘68, and ‘69. Robin Bartlett landed in I Corps right smack in the middle of that period. His training sergeant at Camp Evans said to him, “your life expectancy is less than 90 days.” In this episode, Robin talks about the realities behind that prediction, how he defied it, and the book he wrote about his Vietnam War experience.

This is one of the best interviews I’ve seen on this topic. I’m not a vet but also not a hugger and don’t say I love you. Just asked my daughter if I’m empathetic and she said no. Seems that I have some work to do. Robin Bartlett was clearly a great leader and I hope he realises that his recounting of his experiences is still having an impact on people. Welcome home Robin :-) Nice one and thank you.

I was "there", not in a direct combat situation, but in support of such. Everything he said is true & "rings a bell" in my consciousness. To this day, it is very hard to convey the feelings that come back to me. Some of them I have all the time, other's "just show up" Welcome home sir

I watch these stories the soldiers and as a Canadian in the same age group, I applaud each warfighter for their sacrifices. Many of us in Canada only heard it through filtered news and political rhetoric. Those of you who made it back and we're scared by the experience or who died you have my utmost respect and welcome home
