Good lord! Where did this gem come from? No one in skating today has shown the kind of control that Robin demonstrated time and time again. One of a kind for certain.

He learned by watching John Curry 4 years earlier.

Seeing this for the first time, I caught my breath at his tribute to, and almost exact choreography of, John Curry at the beginning and ending of the first program. He was such a joy to watch and wonderful to see a tall man skate to the peak of his ability. Thank you for sharing this. I am a grateful Canadian. :)

I agree with all Raymonda 100 says. The sheer elegance and control of the first part of this performance and then the athleticism of the second part was absolutely breathtaking. Had the pleasure of seeing him skate at the Ice Show in Brighton a few years ago, he also choreographed the whole show. What a talent he is. Unsurpassed in my opinion.

I have read that Robin Cousins, Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean, all left school at aged 16 to focus on their ice skating. They all got day jobs, but spent all their spare time ice skating and competing. I think the reason Britain has failed to produce another world beating ice skater, since Torvill and Dean and Robin Cousins, is that particularly over the last 20 years, too much importance is placed on school exams. If sport talented kids were encouraged to leave school at 16 and go for their dreams, we might get another world beating ice skater, or 2 or 3.

Francis Hooton They all also went to train abroad to get more/better ice time. Joanne Conway also had the potential to be absolutely brilliant - she came on the scene in 1986 and trained with Carlo Fassi initially who coached both Curry and Cousins in Colorado - but so much pressure was put on her to emulate our gold medalists at the previous 3 olympics that she found it all too much to deal with.

There are no skaters now who can take me with them into a performance and make me feel the way Robin Cousins, Torvill & Dean and John Curry all did - and still do. Janet Lynn too, whose beautiful smile lit up the ice and whose skating was equally sublime but who, sadly, never achieved what she should. Wonderful, all of them.

Might give a little credit to Saint Saens since he composed the first piece (The Swan from Carnival of Animals). I guess Webber was the cellist - but really it's not "his" music.
This guy was pretty good but not as good as Robin Cousins.Robin was the best ever. GOAT.

Julian Lloyd Webber? Are you sure? I only know Andrew Lloyd Webber! :D
@gennieseaview36566 жыл бұрын
MusikPiratCH Julian is a Cellist (I think he has retired from playing due to an injury) and he is the younger brother of Andrew Lloyd Webber. Also he is shown at the beginning in the audience (black curly hair)if you see the clip right through to the end you will see Andrew again with Robin and his credit photo.
