Fleet Foxes have been one of my top bands for years and with each passing show, I've gotten a better and better experience. I had thought I had reached the pinnacle with the "Shore" tour featuring Uwade at Forest Hills Stadium in 2022, however this new intimate experience with Robin solo was rather quite magical.
Robin Pecknold is one of the greatest voices and song writers of our generation and getting to listen and see him from just a few feet away and in my favorite venue left me with jolts of amazement down my back throughout the show. It's no surprise that he sold out both nights at the Bowery Ballroom given his popularity. I was lucky enough to buy a ticket off my friend Alex who was able to secure 3 tickets when they went on sale. Despite his stardom, Robin was super down to earth, self proclaiming how he was dressed like he was "ready to clean your gutters", and chatting with the crowd and continually thanking us for being respectful, quiet, and letting him play his music for us. He recounted how he recently got to play rhythm guitar for Joni Mitchell on tour which required band practice and learning the tracks and deep cuts in the discography. Robin reflected on how thankful he was to let him go through his catalog of songs and play some that don't always make it to the tour setlist. Just because they don't make it on tour doesn't mean they are unworthy and doomed to be neglected. The set included a mix of favorites, deep cuts, and a bunch of his favorite covers.
I think this will now be the Fleet Foxes show to top in my books, and I think that will be a nearly impossible task.
