No you gotta remember Batman watched his parents get shot outside a movie theater as a child and he's a generally depressed guy (I know I would be if I had to see my parents die) and the comic book stories were more serious. He dressed up in colorful costumes, a different color every day, because it would somehow make people forget robin had a broken arm. Hell, one of the most famous and acclaimed joker stories has him giving all the fish in Gotham teeth and trying to copyright the image. Batman can be silly. Batman is allowed to be silly. There’s nothing wrong with that, just like there’s nothing inherently wrong with “serious” Batman.

My daughter is a massive Batman fan of the modern films. She's 17. I came out with a line "Holy crab cakes Batman" and she didn't get the reference. I will definitely have to show her this tomorrow, along with my favourite. "Holy rusted metal Batman," "Huh?" ...... "oh". Along with some wall climbing and "Pow's" Love it.

She's gonna laugh HARD. Or it'll be like that Goldbergs episode where Adam wanted to see the 1989 Batman movie (the series is set in the 80s) and his grandfather introduced him to the 1960s series. As for me? I'm 16, a massive Batman fan of the modern films, and I'd get the reference; in fact I didn't know it was a reference at first; I kept seeing "Holy ___, Batman" on websites and it didn't come to me it was a reference until I found out. I also know of/like the 60s series and it's hilarious.
