The 1960s series may have been an overload of camp, but moments like this show us just how skilled these actors were. Listen to the phone conversation with your eyes closed--Adam West's changes in tone and inflection make it perfectly clear who he's speaking as, even without seeing which phone he's holding up to his ear. Batman sounds confident and commanding, while Wayne seems unsure and a bit taken aback over the whole thing. It really does sell itself as a conversation between two very different people.

It was similar to how Reeves would sound and act differently, even down to just his posture, when he was Clark Kent vs when he was Superman. Like, if you were in that world with no knowledge that Superman had a secret identity at all, you could easily never make the connection. At most, people might think they look similar, but not that they were the same person.

Yeah... this scene proves to me that Adam West's sense of humor on the set of Batman was much drier than it was later. He's clearly acting to a comedy, but in the same way those fast-talking comedic duos who were his contemporaries. He just didn't have *"jokes"* in the traditional sense. None of them did, really. But the humor clearly got out in scenes like this.

We call one number first and then switch to call the other one and then connnect them together,(basically a conference call) if they picked up relatively close to each other and recognized each others voices then it could be a good 10 minute call until we gave in to temptation and started talking into the receiver

West is his own version of Batman one that’s awesome in his own way without having to be a broody depressed nutjob
@pHD775 жыл бұрын
West's Batman wasn't terrible. But it certainly was campy. The series was made in a time, when comic books were regarded as stories for kids and as such received similar treatment with television execs. A lot of fun - not much more that that. (I wonder how Adam West felt about his own work?) While Keaton's Batman had a more serious tone, it still had a minor campy feel to it. But it was slowly getting to resemble that dark knight of vigilante justice, that we've all now come accustomed to. Then the WB cartoons got to show the broody, moody all-too-serious Bats with a great intellect and an ability to think 10 steps ahead. And that, I guess, is how we want him. The Bale Bat movies really went deeper with the origin story and got to show off all the reasoning for why and how a man decides to put on a batsuit to fight crime. A great trilogy that became. Unfortunately, the newer movies from DC with Ben Affleck never really got a chance to truly shine, thanks to rush jobs in trying to create and match Marvel's well-established cinematic universe. But hey, as long as Batsy gets a fair treatment in the realm of comic books and animation, all is good.
@stephenolder45525 жыл бұрын
@@mrcritical6751 i prefer the more serious stuff myself as oppose to this more eye rolling campy stuff. I also dont find things depressing or brooding just because theres some drama and tragedy.
