36v Cordless all the way, bought this mitre saw a few days ago.. after 2 days of cutting laying a medium sized timber floor (iron bark, Australian species. Jenka rating 14) the battery is showing 3/4. Plus they are about to bring out an adapter DC to AC so can plug it in if need be..

Looks like a nice bit of kit, the hitachi miter saws always seem to be a bit lighter than other makes. I’ve gone through a few miter saws over the years.... they don’t break on me but there always seems to be a better one about to come out. The lightness and manoeuvrability is very important to me. They are big ungainly tools and take up allot of room. What I really want, is a small light weight double bevel miter saw, and they just don’t make them.... all the smaller machines are all single bevel. I only ever use these for cutting skirting and architraves. Kitchen pelmet and cornice. For all my framing I use cordless skill saws and a speed square now. The advantage of cutting in situe way out weighs the benefit of nice clean miter saw cuts for timber framing.

I’ve recently invested in the 1/2 impact wrench, the triple hammer driver and the 7 1/4 circular saw from the Multivolt line (Metabo HPT here in the states). Waiting for the hammer drill to come in that I ordered. Love the tools! Great quality and the option of cord or cordless is crazy awesome! Can’t wait to get this and the table saw they have coming out! Hopefully the states will get the vacuum and the larger grinders as well. Great video and great channel, got a new subscriber. Cheers🍻

I think they both have a purpose. As a architectural millwork installer, I’ll always rely on my corded tools for long projects. Even when there’s no power, I link them up to a generator and I’m all set. Cordless is a great option for smaller jobs when you’re installing maybe a single room of trimwork or one or two doors. I’m sure as the future progresses, cordless tools shall become more efficient and will closely rival corded production tools.

I've got the makita brushesless 36v 10inch mitre. Can't remember the name, DZ or LZ or something I think. And I absolutely love it. Corded tools are so much hassle, dangerous as well in some cases having wires hanging around the place. I have cut through everything with mine. If I remember correctly I even went through some 2x12 fairly wet pine, might have been 2x10 but sure it was 12. I've cut walnut and oak with it, obviously have to be a bit careful with the hard woods, I like to scribe down it with 1 or 2 passes depending on thickness and finally go through it, I reckon it would go through in one, but would definitely stress the motor and maybe burn the wood. But it went through any size pine like butter. Really has no problems at all with soft wood. Lovely machine, cost a bit of money but hopefully will last. 3 year warranty as well like all the other makita gear, so that's a bonus.

One thing that is important to note with these cordless saws: the brushless technology is only available in the cordless tools. The brushless motors are excellent and the way to go, corded or not. Can't get that on mains powered saws yet. This is also why they don't just throw in a mains adapter. That would require a fairly sophisticated power supply and would cost some $$, maybe $200 extra. Who would bother at that price. Would rather just get a second set of batteries. This saw looks much like my Makita cordless version. Sounds just like my Makita too. Has the same fixed slide rails for rear clearance which is cool. Like the stand.

I’m all about cordless when ever possible. There’s a few exceptions but not many. I actually bought this saw in the corded version simply because it was on sale at a store and I needed a good saw. Miter saws, for me, I don’t have a huge problem running a chord because it usually stays stationary on the site.

Further to comment I just made. I did buy in-house brand 305mm ouble bevel sliding mitre saw from well known trade store in UK. They were proud of their new pro range. Disaster. Minor stickiness to setting up. Before pressing button, I noticed blade not straight in channel. It was so far off line it was almost hitting the edge. Phoned up the store. Instant return and range pulled from market. That was second higher priced budget machine I had to return. Think before you skimp. This looks great

Very important if you would like to saw with precision. (avoid torsion as much as possible)! Always choose a Miter saw with a handle positioned in a vertical line above the saw blade. Everything must be aligned, slide rails, handle, and saw blade,it is much better this way the blade will not tilt. Because there is some torsion in the aluminum housing . And choose an engine with softstart on it to prevent wear of the gear and worm shaft. It is very important that everything is aligned. Here are some examples to show how the handle must be positioned above the blade. Bosch gcm 800 sj / Bosch gcm 8 sjl / Evolution rage 3 / FESTOOL KS 60 / HITACHI C12RSH2 / FESTOOL KS 60 E KAPEX / Metabo KGSV 72 Xact (This also is the case with the Miter saw without the slide rails). If you want you can test it yourself at home if there is torsion in the aluminum housing. Step-1. First you make a saw cut from +-5 mm deep in to a flat piece of wood about +- 20 mm thick. To this with the normal handle positioned on the right side of the Miter saw. Step-2. Then repeat this by pushing the saw blade down with your hand (finger) on the aluminum protective cover were the saw blade is cased in. Just now only do this without the running engine. Step-3. Now you can see if the saw blade will be positioned in or next to the saw cut. If the saw blade is (+- 0,2 / 0,5 mm) next to the saw cut then there is torsion in the aluminum housing. Step-4. therefor it is much better to choose a Miter saw with the handle positioned vertical in line above the saw blade. Conclusion: how further away the handle is from the saw blade how more chance of torsion in the aluminum housing.(don't go for that).

Robin I am still a fan of the corded stationery saw. For me most of my customers projects do not require us to move are cutting station around much, also if there is no power on site. We have a generator. In the past I have used a generator for over 20 years and do not see the need for what we do to invest in a cordless miter box saw. Are cordless tools are Metabo, Fein, and Milwaukee, and are saws are Makita. Thanks for the look Robin at the rebranded Hitachi/ Hikoki.

Thomas Kitchin I think you are correct. I'm wondering the weight of this hikoki. The festool is about 20kg and has carry handles at each diagonal. I was making furniture years ago and had a cheap ozito sliding mitre saw. I ran dovetails and through dovetails using a Leigh's dovetail jig. I was always slightly out so gave the mitre saw away and bought the festool kapex. Then I no longer had an issue of been slightly out. However I think even my kapex can do with a bit of tweaking. I'd like something smaller when taking to some jobs.

@@anthonyharper5954 funny you should say that because I just seen a post recently on Instagram where a guy blew the motor for the second time in his saw from using that adapter. Did your saw sound different when using the adapter over batteries? Apparently the saw is geared more towards being used cordless and then corded for just the occasional cut which I think is bullshit, don't make the saw able to do both things if it can't handle it

Corded! Consistent power delivery and more powerful. Cordless need charging facilities anyway, or charged in advance. The amount of cursing I've heard when a cordless has the dreaded power fade... Cordless are okay when the battery is new, but they degrade (don't believe the hype) and the price of a new genuine battery will make your eyes water and your wallet empty. And now the batteries are targets for thieves...
@chrisosh9574
@chrisosh9574 5 жыл бұрын
Batteries for large cordless tools still have a way to go and in my opinion are pushed by manufacturers because they make good money from replacement batteries. For larger bench type machines like this, I think a larger remote battery pack that is not fitted direct to the tool head but say, under the base, would be better. You could have a larger pack with longer duration.
@randomtask9029
@randomtask9029 5 жыл бұрын
Exactly, it's to suck you in to an expensive battery buying cycle. The inconvenience of a cord and extension lead is small compared to commitment to the battery ecosystem. A 13 amp plug or 110v plug is universal (for now anyway!).
@chrisosh9574
@chrisosh9574 5 жыл бұрын
@@randomtask9029 I agree, I find the 'bare' machine fashion annoying, it makes the thing look quite cheap but when busy working, changing batteries from one machine to the next is a pain in the neck. You end up buying the batteries separately for a higher price. Plus you end up needing more than one charger so you have to buy them at a higher price too.

I just dropped the hammer on a Hikoki mitre saw. Not this one. In fact, a 20 year old model. The C10FSH(G1Z) with 262mm blade. I assume and hope it is still made in Japan. It lacks some of the features you would expect to see on modern saws, but for as far as I can find opinions on it, it is one of the most accurate and consistent saws (still) available at this size and below 20kg. It will be replacing or augmenting my Dewalt version of my earlier Elu PS174 that I have used for the last 35 years. I hope I made the right decision.

@@SkillBuilder It is. I wore the Elu out after about 20 years of using it for everything I came across, including cutting house frames, and was lucky enough to find a near new identical Dewalt to replace it. That one is still going strong, but I am finally getting fed up with some of its short comings (why so late?). The main one being that the guide rails are very stiff. This model is known for it. And the low pivoting scissor action makes it very hard to cut stock thicker than around 50mm. My new challenge will now be to see how long it will take before I get fed up with dragging the new much heavier and bulkier Hikoki around...

Nice advertisement for a miter saw. Although this brand I have never seen in the U.S.A. I do renovations on older buildings. (1920's and earlier.) I wish making a perfect 90 was all I needed to do. Nothing is square, plumb or level in an old structure. Makes it all sort of complicated. I'm working on a renovation in a building that was built in 1908 right now. Other than that. Shadow line beats a laser any day of the week! Even in direct sunlight, I can stand so my body casts a shadow over the workpiece and see my line. Two things I would change, both features are on the HiKoki reviewed here, I'd like the bevel lock up front, that's a nice feature. Also the slides being attached to the body rather than the head of the saw similar to the Festool Kapex, allowing it to be set up closer the a wall is nice. Always liked the idea of a battery miter saw but now with sites going so heavy about dust you need a extractor too and then your talking a lot of batteries if that's cordless aswell

For the DIYer, corded every time. For the workman, cordless. Lithium batteries dont like being left unused for long periods and that's more likely with a DIYer.

Good saw but the Hikoki idiots made the mains adapter in 240v so not legal on a UK site. 4/8ah batteries they claim can be registered for a 5 year warranty, however you need a serial number to add them on the site. There are no serial numbers on Hikoki batteries so bit of a scam going on there. Many Hikoki 36v tools are almost identical to Makita 40v and even the cases snap together for stacking. Buy Makita.

I bought this machine and i regret it. A lot It is near impossible to use the locked positions, the mechanism has too many plastic parts and because of this, too much play. It is not possible to cut straight in a notched lock position. Not good for fine and detailed work.

Same here!!! I've literally just got it and came to this video to find out a way to sort it out. Can't lock it in at certain degrees, the 90 degree isn't 90 it's 89 and it has 0.5 play so the only way to do a 90 is to have it unlocked. It's a piece of shite!

@@Know3ody i went back to the shop where i bought it, they just said that i should have gotten a festool if i wanted precission cuts, price X3 and more. This hikoki should be better for the price it costs. If i wanted a 50€ machine from a local supermarket, then i would expect this quality, not from an 800€ machine I contacted hikoki directly, multiple times and in different ways, no reply I guess i will try to make an adjustable fine tuning mechanism to correct this. And NOT in plastic.

@@jefvdb7290 to be fair I take my comment back lol. I've calibrated the saw now. Tweeked wotht the bevel and also reseated the fence so it cuts true. I was just angry at the time of writing the message as to how bad it was out the box 😂 after an hour and a bit of tweeking I have no hassle with it now. Proce was okay too at £380 excluding vat.

Ohh and it turns out the handle that locks in the mitre won't snap off (like it felt it would) if you are cutting outside of the set degrees. I really didn't want to force it down but then just thought f it I'm trying it and it worked no worries 😂
