Just imagine certain Hedgefunds have bettet so hard against a firm that they would pay massive amounts of money if the firms stock would rise. So a community of retail traders came togeter and saw that market vulnerability and bought stock of this firm, which would rise the stock firms stock price. Now those Hedgefunds all had this short positions and to mitigate the risk of losses they in turn also had to buy the stock. This results in a "short squeeze" where a stock massively gains value over a short period of time.

@@Jasongy827And this is why people are fighting for change, over 2 1/2 years later. A stock’s price should go where it goes until sellers outweigh buyers or vice versa. Transient actions that manipulate prices are fine if they provide a benefit. But prolonged short exempts among other things with the intent to suppress prices are not okay, especially if these tactics are combined with actions that only the rich know about, such as planted board members that intentionally destroy value.

4.9 percent interest on uninvested cash with 3 percent ira match for gold customers is probably the best decision robinhood has made. Also with their cash cards, they got really good deals. This was very smart of Robinhood.

Is it worth it to have a 4.9% interest rate when the existing interest rates are already at 5% or higher? Additionally, there's a $5 monthly fee for the gold account. How long does the 3% IRA match last? Is it a one-time offer or does it apply every year? Considering that you need to keep your money in the account for 5 years, that amounts to $300 (5 years multiplied by $60 per year).
