My short definition of herping is it's a treasure-hunting adventure. I'm usually in some sick habitat (live in SE AZ) and even if I have specific targets I'm looking for, I typically run across all kinds of bycatch in the process. The treasure hunting aspect of herping is what lights me up. I've done my research and now it's 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' time. Well, in my mind anyway, if I put on the hat.
