As a music educator, I really appreciate the patience these teachers displayed. They were listening intently and trying to help as much as possible despite the circumstances. This is so wholesome! And fun!
@thecommenternobodycaresabout2 жыл бұрын
It depends. In this video Rob was acting like a man with, obviously, limited time, as he was taking his lesson in the barn, aka on the job, in order to fulfill his passion. Any adult with half of life experience can understand that not everyone has the time to do all the things they want to, and they respect that. I am sure that every educator, for music or not, wants to have uninterupted quiet time with their students, so that both can do their part well. However, not everyone can do that and Rob showcased it brilliantly. On the other hand, if the student looked like they were forced to take the lessons, aren't there when you are talking to them or simply ignore your instructions and "wing it" on their own, then I wouldn't blame the teachers if they didn't had the patience to teach the student.
@aarongrooves2 жыл бұрын
@@thecommenternobodycaresabout Yep, you're absolutely right. Sometimes students just aren't ready to take a lesson. I've had to tell a parent before, "I'm sorry, but at this point, they're not able to fully benefit from the lessons. But we can try again in a year or two." Lots of reasons, usually focus-related or age-related. But this is a professional decision/opinion. It's not the same as losing one's patience. It's part of taking care of people and making sure they are in the best situation for learning. Also, different teachers connect differently, and I know some teachers who would love teaching that kid I turned away. Final thought: I no longer have the problem of students who refuse to engage or permanently lose interest. They always come around eventually. Getting students engaged is the most important part of my job. I could tell you some hilarious stories about this!
@aarongrooves2 жыл бұрын
@@thecommenternobodycaresabout Okay...fine...one story. I once had a kindergartner who NEVER participated. It was so bad that his teacher had to come to music class with him and comfort him with a book or coloring sheets. Then one day I finally spoke to the kid and asked him, "Why don't you participate in music class?" His exact words were, "Tony Stark never goes to music class!" He wanted to be iron man so bad, but the movies and comics never show Iron Man in music class, so this kid thought he should avoid music class. 🤣🤣🤣 I told him, "just because they don't show him in music class doesn't mean he didn't go. Most geniuses are actually good musicians." He was fully engaged from then onward. Kids are so funny sometimes
