I joined in late 2009, so I've had a similar experience. I frequently find myself playing the classic yet still active games that still stick to their roots. Natural Disaster Survival, Work at a Pizza Place, etc. Some of them have monetization, but it's so much more reasonable than most of the slop on the platform. There's some new gems of course, like Tower Defense Simulator. Also, I've noticed how the culture has evolved over time, with the changing internet and more adults being on the platform. It's not all bad but particularly the "gooners" as they're now called is a huge problem. Basically every time I join a game I see someone (or myself) getting "backshotted" and absolutely vile stuff in chat/vc. It's disturbing that so many act this way on a kids platform and it's genuinely concerning to me how normalized it's become.

I want to share my own personal opinion on the evolution of robux and the Roblox catalog. Robux has lost its value due to the catalog algorithm showing cheaply made items, copyright ed items, etc, and it made the whole page so unappealing. It doesn't help that Roblox's own items have increased in cost (And yes Roblox inflation is real), so you'll have to spend more money in order to purchase accessories that are expensive. When UGC was introduced, it was a game changer at first, but since the Roblox platform doesn't bother to moderate the items being uploaded to the catalog (Just like the players in the game), a huge wave of copyrighted, cheap, and overall bad accessories spawned into the game. The only thing worth spending on Roblox now is gamepasses, games, or just giving it to kids who REALLY need it.

i recently started playing roblox again having not done so since around 2018, theres only a small handful of games i find myself coming back to (regretavator being my favourite), i was not there for the og days or whatever, but i still find it insane how much its changed for the worse in that time. most of the frontpage games are child gambling. the search function hardly works unless you type the EXACT NAME OF THE THING YOURE LOOKING FOR (not the keywords?????) and then yeah the, catalogue. with my newfound knowlege being older and such i decided to program a roblox game on the side as a hobby, it still isnt even in alpha testing right now but my goal is to bring back some sort of earlier roblox vibes, theres a character creator that uses roblox studs and such which you can rotate and change color and size and such. i have some really big plans for it but something else im commiting to is 0 gamepasses/microtransactions, (minus a donation option thats out of the way and completely optional, since, yknow, spent a lot of time already working on it) i completely refuse to lock any gamplay or morph or ANYTHING of the sort behind a paywall, and this is with my own creation. the absolute fucking balls that those slop games have to steal other's work amd profit off it makes me LIVID i hope one day we can get back to point where more devs are like the regretavator ones, actually passionate about the game and not making money

Thats another thing, old roblox games where all ways built around this really short but fun and social gameplay loops. A lot of games nowadays on roblox are structured on how can we put you through the longest and most tedious possible grind to get you to spend money and stick around. I always liked how roblox games where ones i could pick up at any time and they werent a big commitment it was just dumb fun, and the gameplay loop was still interesting and rewarding enough to have me coming back.

Its pretty sad, I mean basic moderation would completely change the kind of content on the platform. There are plenty of (literally) copy paste simulator games with slightly different skins on them that exist purely to make money, and more importantly the games (that are actually promoted) are very exploitative of the younger audience they aim towards. And its actually just baffling how models and everything are just ripped from elsewhere and SOLD for money ?? Like you mentioned on the very front page, not just hidden away somewhere . I honestly think the main change for me is the change away from the R6 bodytype (alongside the discovery issues you mentioned in this vide). Most of the games I find/play on Roblox these days just don't even feel like Roblox because of primarily this change, they feel like Indie Steam games with the amount of random character variety which is just not what I come to the site for. Having a spongebob head wouldn't matter much if your character wasn't half as tall, twice as wide, etc. I never batted an eye at those cool cross-promotion items like the Stormtrooper Helmet which maintained the general roblox style despite being a starwars hat. I don't care about microtransactions and it's been pretty normal to have extreme pay to win stuff since like way back in 2014, I among many others just choose not to play that stuff (p2w mobile game garbage) cuz it sucks and I really don't think that push for microtransactions is really that bad if you just ignore the top games all played by small children.
@junkokitty8 күн бұрын
@@Sizzyl the issue i have with the micro transactions is that games are being developed around them, which leads to content being locked. long long ago there were only the vip t shirts, and those weren’t as invasive as the current system a lot of the time.
@Sizzyl8 күн бұрын
@@junkokitty there have been games developed around them always, it's just that nobody cared to play them because as you said, spending money on video games was way less normal. I do think the mobile release of roblox assisted this greatly as people have always been willing to spend money in mobile games, but as you stated in the video it's an industry-wide problem of people buying so many microtransactions that really lead to where we are today in terms of that.
@AJiguess_8 күн бұрын
I do believe Roblox has changed for the worst since I joined in 2016, but I’ve realized that it isn’t really Roblox changing, it’s the world around it. Roblox is simply adapting to what will get the most money or (very occasionally) what is fun. If we look at what the world and gaming landscape was 14 years ago, 10 years ago, even 5 years ago. It’s odd seeing how Roblox comforts to the general gaming landscape more and more as it gains traction. What I’m trying to say is that it’s no so much Roblox itself as it is the gaming landscape as a whole and how it’s been nearly nuked into oblivion Edit : I just finished watching the video and it kinda proves my point ig

I still think there are some good games in present day Roblox. Blocktales and Regretevator are some noteworthy examples. I get they're not for everyone, especially Roblox veterans like yourself. I joined in 2016 but I'm honestly not quite sure if I can classify as a "veteran" per se. I can totally understand how modern day Roblox has issues, especially in the moderation department. ESPECIALLY in the moderation department. But I can still see some hope in the platform, it just needs new management, and dare I say, better investors that aren't greedy assholes. We can only see forward how the platform will end up and where it'll take us.

@junkokitty It's kind of complicated. If you ask me, it's similar to how KZbin works with the algorithm, it recommends what it does based on what they believe makes the most money and/or makes the biggest numbers possible. Given that Roblox's general audience is rather young, I'm sure that's why the front page is the way it is right now. Kids are very gullible, and they tend to click on the first thing they see as very enticing. Of course, algorithms tend to be different for everyone depending on what games they play or what videos they watch, but all in all, it does feel like it mostly recommends what is currently popular with the general public.

If Roblox had stuck to their brand and stayed true to themselves I think they would have a much better fanbase and not have so many negative associations. I know quite a lot of old players who hate what's happened to the site and even a lot of new players who won't even give it a chance because of how scummy it's become. It's hard to even look at Roblox now and realize it was the platform I loved and spent so much time on. You can never find a game unless you spend hours digging through slop, there's no search features so you can't even SORT the slop, and avatars are disgusting and overly sexual for no reason. I hate what Roblox has become and wish it would have stayed true to itself. It's no longer a place for kids, or even a place for self expression. It's a cesspit of slop and sexualized garbage.

i’ve seen some crazy stuff on the homepage, including straight up weird racist stuff. i have no idea what they’re doing, but obviously it’s not working in terms of keeping the site clean. it’s hard to gauge what would’ve happened to roblox without the direction it took, but i would have loved to see it succeed.

FOR THE BETTER jokes aside, there are some amazing games in modern day Roblox. I still love that shit. Roblox has given me so many good memories. Not in my childhood, because I didn't play until like 2-3 years ago, but in my adulthood. Hopping on and playing on stream as a joke, just to discover that there are actually some really fun games on Roblox, is probably similar to the reason so many people aside from children do play Roblox. Most of my fun in the game has been had in terrible shitpost experiences, where a few friends and I will just hop on and fuck around, laughing nonstop. Or we'd play something like Doors or Pressure. There's always something to do. I guess the real reason I like the game is not for the game itself, it's for the people I experience the game with. Roblox is a catalyst for the fun moments I have with my friends. Simply a spoon to shovel the cereal of laughter into our mouths or something like that (I'm really struggling to find the word I'm looking for okay)
