Roblox is REMOVING R6?

Where did yesterdays video go, you may ask? Well, let's go over a little story of what happened! So yesterday I made the video saying R6 was being removed. Am I wrong to say that? Not exactly. But after receiving feedback and rewatching the video I recognize some flaws and I'd like to share them with y'all. First of all, Roblox never specifically stated R6 was being removed. "Removed" is nowhere in the announcement. That's what will happen in the end as Roblox unified the avatar types and R6 gets turned into R15, but it is not the result of the deprecation (or as I kept saying mistakenly "depreciation" lol) of R6 technology as I had made it out to be. Roblox never specifically said R6 would be removed and it is not the result of deprecation of R6 tech. I got that wrong part wrong. R6 is instead going away via it being superseded in the unification process. Secondly the video is too long. I clearly stated that Roblox wanted to keep the R6 look, style, and movement several times but people didn't watch up to those points or were focused on other things. I wasn't to the point enough and spent too much time airing my concerns, which now I realize really wasn't necessary. That's why this version is much more shorter and to the point; so those parts aren't skipped over by people watching. Also I didn't intentionally make it 8 minutes for ads, it just happened to work out to being just above 8 minutes after chopping up my uncut one-take 11 minute and 2 second long audio recording lol. When I got home later in the day I spent some time reading the comments probably over half were not factoring in Roblox wanting to keep R6's style, feeling, and movement, and that was evidently a problem. I also didn't realize so many people didn't know the differences between R6, R15, and Rthro, and thought R6 = blocky. Made sure to clear that up in this video. In the future when it comes to bigger news like this I'll make sure to be more to the point and reiterating things instead of spending so much time sharing my own opinions so people have a better understanding of things without having to watch a video that's like 8 minutes long. Thirdly I was definitely a bit too negative. I was on a time crunch and a little stressed with multiple big things going on in my personal life (including me pretty much becoming Tito greenlegocats123!!!) so that didn't help, but also my genuine reaction to the "replacement" avatar (which at the time, with no context from Roblox, looked to be what they were aiming towards and knowing how they've been with avatars in the past I did worry the final product may very well have looked like that) influenced my overall feeling when writing up a script and editing too much. The first bit is kinda out of my control but the second part shouldn't have really influenced how I went upon producing the video and that is something I will be watching out for going forwards. Was my video or am I as bad as some people are making it out to be? No, certainly not, but I do recognize where I am at fault and how I can prevent similar things from happening again. I have already learned quite a bit from this latest little endeavor and I'll strive to make sure similar things don't go the same way. Again, I'm not wrong to say R6 is gone because that's what will end up once the avatar system unification happens, but I could've certainly gone upon talking about that in a video better. Sorry for any chaos or confusion I may have caused, it was not at all my intention. I'm hoping this video will help clear things up a bit better (hence the same title and thumbnail, I want people searching for the other one to find this one). I'm not entirely wrong but I'm not entirely right either and I have learned from this situation. Now let's continue on with the show!

My only ding is im not a fan how classic clothing sits on blocky r15, it makes the pants/shorts disappear because the top part of the leg is removed and is basically sealed with back and the front

I'm quite worried about compatibility issues with gears. If the avatars are still coded like R15, most gears will have issues and Roblox will obviously not bother to fix them.

If this is added It should have a “layered clothing” option for on and off, for certain games layered clothes can bug out, (like those layered clothing that makes them huge when they are not) it could ruin battle games and other games that have things like hitboxes.

If they ever replace R6 with a modified R15 rig, they should change the package of the new R6 rig to look like the old R6. That way, the classic clothes will not glitch like the current default package in R15.

Issues due to replacing R6 with a diffrent version: Many games will break, because they use Right Arm, Left Arm, Right Leg, Left Leg, Torso, and the other version will not use that, it will use some R15 stuff, which is HORRIBLE. Many games will implement a force R6 system or have a your player rig that looks like r6 with r6 animations Some games might kick you if you use R15

i can see some other ways this could work 1. mesh deformation, if this is used it could conjoin the joints of the r15 body toghether so it would look pretty much just like r6 but with scaling and layered clothing instead of r15 moving like an r6 avatar 2. trigger only upon certain conditions, not wearing any layered clothing? normal r6 avatar, wearing layered clothing? adapted avatar.

if roblox decides to add this, advanced obbies like jtoh and tiered obbies may be destroyed because they heavily rely on R6 physics (especially tiered obbies). I also believe that this update is pretty much pointless... the R6 community on its own is heavily attached to the avatar style, and any changes will bring a lot of complaints from users. Other than layered clothing, roblox has no actual reason to merge R6 and R15. I believe that roblox should just depreciate R6 and not change it at all. We just want to enjoy playing games in this platform and I dont think anybody really asked for such an update. When I posted this in my discord server I had tons of reactions from my friends and people about this update, 90% of them being negative, and that 10% neutral, so it is safe to say that there is no positive reaction from people who mainly use R6 avatars. sorry for the insanely long text i just wanted to give my whole opinion lol

Nah, they won’t. A lot of games work using r6 animation. If they remove r6 it might be the final straw, with the playerbase and the devs. Also (in my opinion), R6 animation is easier. There are way less bits to change per frame. The only bit of R6 animation that is difficult is how the arms and legs don’t have to connect to the shoulders/hips. Once you get that, it’s easier then r15.

I checked in studio to see how the new adapter worked and basically there's the R15 rig, which doesn't collide and then there's a base R6 rig, which is the hitbox of the player, so the adapter is really just R6 but with the latest features, so we've got nothing to worry about!

Sounds like a good update, they're basically just gonna make a more modernized version of R6 which isn't so bad. I hope they still keep actual R6 technology around, as removing it may completely break R6 games (as was stated before) but besides that it sounds like it'll pan out well and shouldn't lead to too many issues.

I am fine for not being able to switch between R6 and R15 but they should keep the technology around for studio use/game development, since some people do like to simplify their games and coding R6 NPCs and animating them is really easy to do for newer devs.

Knowing this kinds of worrying me since some games that is not updating for a long time might have bugs in custom animations like funky friday,combat warriors,evade and decaying winter,as 4 of these games has custom r6 animations which can take the devs more time to reanimate all the custom animations

tthis is still not a good update many people will most likely hate any r6 r15 thing they should just keep r6 i know like 5 people who use layered clothing and no one likes animated faces this is especially true for r6 users this is a bad update ive never heard anyone want this it will also most likely break retro clothing, any games with custom R6 animations and non r15 scripts for example "left arm does smth" may be a script but because r15 is now being forced it will error saying theres no "left arm" bc now its 3 parts this is why most games force you to one or the other and doing this will prob break any remaining gears that work any working retro games or games not updated anymore we may even lose classic games that still have some concurrent players like sfoths or AR this isnt and wont be a good update

Im very eager to see this update in action. I vividly remember a short time where you were able to wear Layered Clothing while being R6. As a game dev, this is a terrible update. There is a reason people use r6 in thier games today, One is the style, but the unknown one is animation, its way harder to make animations for r6 and uncompatible games wont be able to run r6 animations on r15 characters. I have one avatar for R15 games and one avatar for R6 games. Neither avatar looks good in games of the opposite type. Switching avatars is a massive hassle and gives my avatar an identity crisis not being able to stick to just one look. I would probably play more R6 games with this change due to R15 having much better customization options.

this is a good change overall, but i have my worries about how roblox is going to handle this. i get that it's in beta, but its current beta state is...barely functional, to put it lightly. pretty much the only thing that works normally is movement, gears made for r6 don't function properly (you don't even hold them right), and while i haven't tested it yet i'm worried how scripts that only work with r6 are going to be affected i'm hoping things get better as this thing progresses, otherwise this is going to be yet another change which renders games from the past basically unplayable just like the forcing of filteringenabled and complete removal of loadlibrary

Alright, it's not as bad as it seems to be. So long as Roblox lets us have a stiff animation pack for free, I'm all for it. After all, it would be nice to have the new features with an R6-like rig, even better if you can have an official character mesh which perfectly looks like the blocky R6 rig that we are all used to, making it look more rigid while still having the segmented body parts. Only issue might be the velocity obtained from bomb jumps like in Doomspire Brickbattle, since the velocity amplifies with more body parts, but so long as Roblox finds a way around that, it should be fine.

This is slightly wrong. What Roblox is actually doing is using what's called an "R15 to R6 adapter" that can allows players to use led clothing. The normal R6 feature doesn't allowed led clothing so game developers can use this R15 to R6 adapter in there games to players can use led clothing.
