Nice Job Rob! I had the exact same issues as you did with the alignments of the wholes for the screws. One thing I had to do as well is change the screws as these will rust. They rusted while I'm in Austin before I even drive to the beach. I was able to find same type of screws that were rust resistant. Looks good man! 👍

I have a prinsu roof rack on mine. Takes a little extra time to install but, you can definitely hold a lot more on top of your truck. I have an ikamper mini on my rack.

I have a roof rack and prefer the bars front to back and not side to side. I think it looks better that way. But it’s nice to have the flexibility to do either.

Interesting, I had my dealer install mine, can't remember why. But they complained about the install giving them trouble. I couldn't understand that until I saw your install (holes not lining up), I am surprised, usually Toyota quality is spot on.

Hey Rob, be aware that the roof rack will rattle. This is normal when deployed. When you have a load on it the rattle will stop. I haven’t noticed the rattle when the rack is not deployed. RubyTaco Mike

I loaded this truck with every option TRD 32’s Tire’s JBL with subwoofer behind seat. Just put the Pop lock in that morning. It’s going to be hard to find another. Dealership’s in Florida don’t have any SR5. I have full replacement on the truck but not my problem there company is paying it and more. The funny part I am a Sheriff. Have a nice day Sir

Looks great! I've thought about putting one on my 2020 but haven't pulled the trigger, yet. Toyota moved the shark fin antenna forward to help eliminate the leaking 3rd taillight - then moved it back somewhere around 1 February 2020 production because of the roof rack impact.

Rob I lost one of those ruber pieces on my passenger side can't imagine why anyone would take it but they are held down pretty well so I can't see it blowing off on the highway unless it came off in the car wash but anyway it cost over a hundred dollars to replace it so make sure you hold on to them another great video thanks

I had to get different bolts to fit the ones you trimmed. They were not machined correctly.

After 50 months never parked inside my 2 cents. The hardware is cheap and will rust, replace with stainless steel where you can. Use silicone on bolt holes in the roof, fill the hole completely. You will hear more wind noise and much more when deployed with cargo. You will notice the gas mileage when loaded.

13:49 That’s so weird my 2023 double cab antenna fin goes all the way back, like the back of it touches the end of the roof by the back breaklight. They must have realized this issue and changed it. At least it still clamps down, I’d be pissed if I bought a factory roof rack and it doesn’t work.

This is the rack that came on my (pre-owned) 2016. I've had no issues with the rear bar, as long as you use the forward position. If you forget and leave the bars side-to-side, there is a bit of wind noise on the highway. My next project is getting kayak racks up there and hoisting a 75lb kayak up there somehow. 🙄 Have you seen any weight limits for the rack? Mine was preinstalled, with no paperwork.

Since the front is hollow, you could easily put screws thru to mount to. Just make sure you get the right length light bar👍

Rubbing on the fin, not good. Wait until you put some weight on the roof rack. Then it will rub. Also, how close does the front pieces of the rack come to the wind shield? They may hamper a wind shield replacement as they strip off everything to access the glass.

@@RobMotive I think they lined up pretty good but either there was too much thread lock or the holes weren’t threaded good on the truck because the screws got really hard to turn before they tightened up flush.

My concern exactly. Will it work.. yes apparently (Thanks Rob), but load some cargo and I could see it being a problem (100lbs on a bumpy road might not be good for the shark fin). My 2020 was 11/19 production so I have the same issue.

Tacos Rule! Ok, I think I know what's causing the holes to not line up on the roof racks, as I bought a set on ebay and sent them back after they didn't line up. Then I ordered another set from Extreme Terrain (Red Rock brand). Those METAL BRACKETS that mount on the FRONT of the ROOF. The BOLT HOLES on those two metal brackets SHOULD BE ELONGATED a Little Bit. This allows a little forward or backward movement (slide) of the bracket so that you can line up the rest of the roof holes. It takes a few more minutes, but it's worth it for a good fit. So DON'T Tighten the metal bracket bolts just yet. Install the bracket, and Leave said bolts a tad loose so the brackets can move (slide). Then screw the rack onto said bracket. THEN you can make sure the holes line up, as the racks can now slide a tad forward or backward. Then carefully remove the rack off the mounting bracket, so as not to move the alignment of said bracket, and Tighten the bracket bolts. NOW your holes will line up! The instructions (if any are provided) Don't Mention That! In retrospect, that first set of racks I ordered may have actually fit, as I didn't realize that until afterward. So spread the word about them metal bracket holes! Robby from Corpus Christi

@@RobMotive sore have fractured bone in my right arm.hit my head on drivers, can’t believe I broke the glass with 5 percent little sore this morning . All the mods I did just did. Installed a pop n lock that morning and cleaned with 2 more coats of ceramic H1, 8 coats on it. Just mad 😡 I am not gonna be able to replace it there’s nothing out there, have full replacement value. Had it just over 2 months and all the parts that are ordered. Every option you can get. Fox said that they’ll take back the lift kit no charge. Awesome Company told them I might have to wait for the new Tacoma unless I can find one 😂😂 but dream on. Great video. I purchased the OEM specific for my 2016 tacoma and it fit perfectly. I was concerned that the shark fin may get in the way, fortunately that did not happen. Great content, keep up the great work

Toyota engineers must have overlooked that shark fin when designing the roof rack, then decided to modify with 2nd hole. Oem parts should function without any modifications, that's the type of thing I'd expect on a Ford not Toyota.........Come on Toyota !
