I think in Rob's situation it does matter the longevity of the 4th gen. For most it wouldnt either. If you get bored with your truck and trade it in every 2 or 3 years just drive whatever you like. I keep mine 10 years so im sticking to my gen 3. They seem to be holding up well as time goes on even though they're not as refined.

My brother from Colorado has the 2024 Tacoma and it has quote " altitude sickness" the Toyota service tech says!!! Turbo not responding at higher elevations when pulling a trailer with snowmobile. I am so glad I did not purchase the 24 . I will wait for bugs to be removed first!!

I owned an Army Green 3rd gen TRD Sport 4X4 and got so many compliments on it. I sold it because I wasn’t comfortable driving it on a road trip. Around town it was great but on the highway the seating position and the gear hunting was unbearable. I only had 18,000 miles on it when I sold it. I bought a Blue Crush 2024 TRD Off Road, premium package and I love it. For the reasons you said plus some more features with the premium package. I’m getting way more compliments on my new truck and I haven’t even modded it much yet.

Hey Rob, nice update. I can speak about the jump from on gen to the other and the slight improvements to each of them. I ca speak about the jump from gen 1 to gen 4, all I can say is wow!. The 4th gen and the tech puts a smile on my face just thinking them. Well on way to look at it is “You don’t know what your missing until you try it. For anyone on the fence drive first then speak.

Came to the comments to see all the previous gen Tacoma owners who apparently hate it so much, they watch every video and comment on it 😂 The Reality? They still have payments and are upset something substantially better came out, so they have to find a reason to justify why its ok that they cant get one. (you know im right...get over it)

I have a 3rd gen. My second one actually. There is no way I'm getting a 4 cylinder. I don't care how much you try to make it sound better. Obviously I'm not the only one who thinks this. Their sales are WAY down for a reason. I get that you have a channel and need to support it with new trucks but your video saying all these things are better, are not. A lot of us like older tacomas due to their simplicity. Love the channel though.

Have you test drove a 2024 Tacoma yet? Why get hung up on the issue of a 4-cylinder when Toyota added the better items to the truck to make the 4-cylinder perform even better? The turbos and hybrids are the world we live in now. The days of the NA engines are being phased out. The US Govt's EPA regulations are the foundation for all these changes. I owned a 2018 Tacoma with the 3.5L V6 and it would hunt gears shifting at lower speeds. Dealer said that was par for the course of the design. My 2024 Tacoma OR does not hunt gears and the 8-speed transmission makes it so much better. To each his own.

Just test drive the 24tacoma you'll feel the difference. Also just think of this one, do you think the 3rd gen tacoma are better than the recent land cruiser? 24 tacoma has the same engine of a LC.

Rob we 4x4 driving Tacoma nuts enjoy your channel! Your money your choice my friend. I live on 50+ acres of KY farmland and 2WD just won’t cut it around here. Weather dudes calling for 3-5 inches of snow Sunday into Monday and I rest assured I will manage to go where I need with my 4x4! It only takes needing 4WD one time to pay for it in my book, but again I am not here to criticize your purchase! I will keep watching whether you drive 4x2’s or 4x4’s. Keep on keeping!!

It’s non mechanically inclined KZbinrs like yourself that’s the problem. You sit here giving praise to a gaint iPad screen on wheels. But forget it still has a combustion engine. Now more complicated and more stress per cylinder. 4 cylinders have come a long way but not that far lmfao. It is a FACT that these engines will not last as long. That’s why I bought a 2023 trd of premium. 😂

Hello Rob, long time fan. I have been reading many of the great comments here. I think you should follow some of the advice to wait until the '25 Tacoma's are on the market. A nice SR5 4x4 would be a great model, with all the Mods to apply and make it all yours ,and to show it off with all the glory , and who needs the TRD? I just think the price of TRD decal isn't worth the money, but that's me. LOL! Still have my good old 2020 Access cab SR 4x4 , and the little 4cyl. is just doing fine, it handles well, and , the 4x4 feature kicks tail in the snow , I will own it in July of '25. Keep the videos coming brother. The window tint is my next purchase, you sold me on that in no time , I want it soon. Getting a remote starter in just a few days, yippee!! LOL! Take care Rob, and Happy New year.

Certified mechanic and life-long gearhead here, higher octane will absolutely make a difference in power and efficiency. It looks like these 2.4 turbocharged engines run at about an 11:1 compression ratio, which is quite high for a boosted vehicle. Factory turbo vehicles of the past ran about 8.5 or 9:1 compression so they were at lower risk of detonation. 11:1 is high for a naturally aspirated engine, let alone one jamming 14+ psi into the cylinders! Can you run 87? Absolutely, people do it everyday. Toyota has to make the vehicles run pretty much anywhere. How do they do that? They retard ignition timing and possibly reduce boost levels. These engines have knock sensors that detect pre-ignition (detonation) that will hammer the bottom end, wear out bearings and cause issues down the road. Stillen, a VERY well renowned aftermarket tuning company that's been around a long time, did an 87 vs 91 octane dyno comparison on a '24 Tacoma here on youtube and it made quite a difference to the tune of almost 20 hp. Can you "feel" 20 PEAK horsepower? Probably, if you can magically do back to back runs and go from 87 to 93 with a switch, but that's not gonna happen. Only a dyno or 1/4 mile E.T. can tell you that. Bottom line, they're designed and built for 91+, they're de-tuned to run 87. You can absolutely run it forever on 87 BUT IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE in power.
@RobMotive
@RobMotive 2 күн бұрын
Unless you’re putting your truck on a Dyno everyday, save your money. You can’t feel 20Hp so what’s the point. Toyota engineered the truck for 87 (detuned or not).

Rob.. Love the channel and watching your videos. I think you are spot on in increasing your reach going with a 4x4. I decided to keep my paid for 2011 SR5 4x4 extended cab with the 6ft bed. 104k miles and runs like a champ. I love the multi-port injected V6. In addition some guy named Rob turned me on to The Pedal Cmdr and a K&N cold air intake with some Falken Wildpeak AT4's and some sweet wheels.
