Here are a few scenes from RoboCop 2 (1990) and their filming locations in Houston today.
Robocop 2 was filmed in Houston, Texas during the winter of 1989. While the first Robocop was shot in Dallas, Houston was chosen for the sequel because of its warmer climate during winter and lack of snow, unlike the more northern Dallas. Filming locations include many spots in downtown Houston such as the Wortham Center, the Alley Theater, and City Hall. Other scenes were filmed in Houston neighborhoods like the Fourth Ward and Hyde Park. I did not go to all of the locations featured in the movie.
Another difference from the first film is that Paul Verhoeven did not return to direct. Instead, Robocop 2 was directed by Irvin Kershner, who is probably best known for directing The Empire Strikes Back (1980). The screenplay was penned by Frank Miller, then known in the world of comics for The Dark Knight Returns and many other acclaimed graphic novels and comic book runs.

The stockhouse scene is actually Anheuser-Busch brewery in Houston. I remember my dad actually coming home from work (he worked in brewing at the plant) and he brought home two shells from discharged blanks that they used for that scene. One of them went to me, the other was for my sister.

my grandma was the accountant at Birraporettis just a block over and a lot of the crew used to eat there. Knowing I was a huge robocop fan she got the scoop when they would film some action scenes from them. Got to watch some of the finale filmed from the parking garage across from Wortham!

This is great! Thank you very much for putting this together. Houston looks worse now in some of those intitial areas, particularly the location for the opening scenes of the film. Too clean and modern, no character; the grit and tarmac road has gone. A real shame. City Hall (if it’s that where Mayor Kuzak is giving his “no effort will be spared” press statement before the cameras) needs a serious wash down and clean. Looks absolutely filthy. Glad to see the rest of the shooting spots have remained the same. Quite a few obstructing trees in the square from the finale. Can see why they were added and planted by Houston City Council, but would be better without. Don’t know which language track you used, but the original American one would’ve been better. Your KZbin account name is even American; why Eastern Europe dubbing?

Thanks. I didn't get to film all the spots I wanted but this is probably the majority that still look similar. I agree RE the changes, lots of Houston is like that now. City Hall and the nearby Houston Central Library have been closed and closed off with construction blocking the sidewalk access so I couldn't get too close. About the dub, I don't have a DVD/BD burner or digital copy but I found someone uploaded a crisp BD copy to KZbin... but in Portuguese. I remember uploading it and listening going "damn I forgot to mute that." Was thinking about the clips I shot mainly. IDK if it's possible to edit now on YT. Didn't want to go through with deleting/reuploading. Was hoping not too many people would notice 😂 Yeah the original film in English would be best. Yes I am American... Houston, TX where Robocop 2 was filmed..

@@texanology No worries. Awesome that you live there. So, the finale locations; what buildings are those? Is Houston a big city? Did they have to travel much to shoot where they did? Where’s the industrial area in relation...

@@AirwolfArchive There's a number of buildings listed as being used on IMDb and then some elsewhere I had in my notes (The Cullen Center, specifically 1600 Smith is OCP HQ). By finale I assume you mean the battle between Robocop and Robocop 2. When they get outside, much of it is around a few shots I did manage to get of the Alley Theater and Wortham Center right across the street. I didn't get around to filming those angles, but when Robo jumps on Cain's back, that's the side wall of the Alley Theatre. The interiors were shot at the George R Brown Convention Center, which was brand spanking new when they filmed it in '89. I think it's been closed to the public since the pandemic began and it's used as a shelter when we have things like Hurricane Harvey in '17 or that big freeze and no power just recently. It's no where close to the Wortham Center or Alley Theatre though. Exterior looks sorta similar to inside. No clue about those hallway scenes and elevator shafts. I think those are mostly props and fake backdrops when they get to the roof. When they land, that's back at the Wortham Center (I got that one). Houston's huge. 4th largest city in America. We're expected to eclipse Chicago's 3rd spot any second now. I think we might have been 3rd in the 70s. The area / land mass is large too, compared to most cities. Downtown Houston proper is kinda big, but the "Greater Houston Area" is a massive sprawl. A good amount was filmed Downtown, not too far from each other. Most other scenes are close to Downtown still (within the 610 Loop / Buffalo Speedway). A couple spots are out there though, like the Hiram Clarke Power Plant (the Nuke lab and I think it was used for something else) as well as some scenes ostensibly shot in Baytown (I think pickup shots down Texas Avenue but I'm not really sure where exactly in the film... maybe spliced at the start with shots of Main St. Downtown. There's also some locations vaguely listed on the IMDB filming locations page that I can't find. Like the Budweiser Brewery on I-10 and 610 that I pass by frequently as well as something on Post Oak Blvd. But that page is missing a ton of spots too.

@@texanology Hi there! Sincere apologies for not responding sooner. Your reply was quite long and my phone's screen is unresponsive. Can't tap any letters on the left side of the keypad...like 'a', lol. Only just got the laptop fixed. Thanks again for all the detail and info. about where they shot, etc. Didn't know about the Convention Centre being used for Harvey and the freeze. About Houston though, is the city centre as large as, say, New York or L.A.? Dallas, from what I saw, didn't seem that big. Kinda small, in a way...like Phoenix.

@@AirwolfArchive No worries. Houston's not at all comparable to NYC, not too similar to LA either really. All the Texan cities, the big 4 at least (Austin, Houston, San Antonio, Dallas) are pretty compact and square by comparison, just focusing of the downtown areas themselves. The outskirts span a HUGE area though most of the neighborhoods used in the film are close by minus Texas Ave. in Baytown and the Hiram Clarke Power Plant.

Hello. I have a correction. The scene of the boy on the bike passing Vermont Street on McDuffie is a trick shot. The house is not on the left side but on the right. Look at the shadow of the bike in the two shots, coming from the intersection and when he pulls onto the sidewalk (that was from the opposite direction). According to Apple Maps,1811 McDuffie has not changed nor has the house to the left of it or beyond it or the first house he passes before it. It is still there as it was but blocked by trees. Look at Apple Maps and "look around." They did this so that the other two boys could turn off into the other street since it is the closest intersection. So the last shot with the big red brick house down the street is the same house that he passes from the opposite direction, but it is not included in the shot. I just went to this area for a dinner engagement.
@texanology
@texanology 2 жыл бұрын
I fail to see what you are trying to say here. The only thing shown today from that scene is the house (now a lot), at 1811 McDuffie, whose address is indeed what's on video (at least as of two years ago). The intersection was not photographed. The house has the same address on Google Maps as it did two years ago and moreover it is physically posted on the property if you walk up to it.

@@texanology I wasn't correcting your photography of the intersection. Just commenting on how the movie was made. It appears in the movie to be on the left side of the street when in reality it is on the right side. I apologies my iPhone apple maps is wrong and outdated.
