I just realized the idea on this movie. Alex is just the way to put a machine on the streets, he is not in control, he is just an excuse.
@jweav1513 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. That was what OCP thought they were doing but to me the point of these movies, even the originals, is that the human mind is more powerful than the computer. In this movie I always took it as Dr. Norton not realizing that Alex is not just a passenger since is it was the first time he melded a machine with a human mind like that, until later on when Alex overcomes the brain chemistry manipulation and solves his own murder and eventually Directive 4. Even in combat, his software is doing most of the quick decisions, but Alex is not just a passenger, he does have some level of control. Like he makes the big decision that the best way to take out the ED209s is to stay under the ones feet and his computer makes all the small fast decisions to keep him from getting stepped on and hide behind the legs to avoid fire from the other 2.

I think it's more do they wanted better robots on the streets. In this scene one of them says wet already have robots, the plan was to put soldiers on the street who are strong as robots but had the resolve of a human being. A robot that made humane decisions, which is the #1 downside of AI. A machine won't know to save the child first no matter what

Would be interesting to see a sequel utilizing the more obvious next step, human driven telepresence units, like in “Surrogates”. Could give Murphy some kind of mental crisis as he’s trying to figure out where a cyborg like him fits into the newly developing police force. Don’t have a real idea as to the specific plot but in the Robocop universe such things are generally just window dressing anyway.

well prior to this, it was shown during a simulation that a machine will out perform him coz of the fast pace decision making that is needed. Murphy showed during the first simulation that since he is human, he hesitates to face gunfire, shoot, etc while the machine keeps powering through. The machine knows what caliber to avoid, what shot to avoid and what shot to absorb. It also has better accuracy compared to Murphy.

Still didn't understand.. how's Alex accountable when the software is doing all the killing ..even if S/W is sending signals to his brain but it would be like kill first then acknowledge, I mean react first think next
@mikemalley19093 жыл бұрын
That's the point from their standpoint - Alex thinks he's in control. Problem solved.
@NACLGames3 жыл бұрын
That's the point. He isn't accountable. But he thinks he's control, and his designers also falsely claim he is. That way, the police can put an efficient machine on the streets who's not encumbered by human emotional and mental weakness, while the public thinks their safety isn't in the hands of a machine, which they greatly oppose.
@anilkapri92243 жыл бұрын
@@NACLGames ..it's a good logic .. I understand it's only a movie but technically what's the point of sending signals to his brain after he has already killed a person ..only to make him feel guilty.. Suppose a scenario where a young child points a gun towards Alex and the software takes over and he shoots back in counter ..It kills the very concept of accountability if there's no human brain involved before any action..I mean how do they see that as an USP with Alex if he would eventually function similar to any other robot police out there in the street
@moteroargentino79443 жыл бұрын
The way I see it, the software acted like his instincts. That's the illusion of free will, we think we are always in control but the truth is that most of the time we do things on "auto pilot", especially routine. We only engage in "manual mode" when we encounter something new. That's just how our brain works. What they did is replace said instincts with combat software that tells the brain what to do without losing time, but it works as long as it doesn't conflict with the brain's pre established rules, for example, is the software told Alex to kill his family chances are that the brain would question that order and jump to manual mode again. But it depends on the brain itself. Think of it like impulses, some people have more self control than others.
@anilkapri92243 жыл бұрын
@@moteroargentino7944 right, this eventually happened in the end when his brain tried to override the s/w and h/w not to kill his family.. I think the doctor believed in Alex cause he explained the businessman (antagonist) otherwise and he took it as an USP to use Alex in public

This movie is a joke. Alex dies by car bomb and is only a hand and head and lungs. Try the original 1987 Robocop. He got blasted by a group of thugs with shotguns. He gets set on fire. He faces ED 209 one on one he lost the first round but he came back and killed ED 209. Robocop was shot with a grenade in the chest and he survived. He was stabbed, he was blown up and set on fire, thrown himself and another drug Robocop off the room of a skyscraper and survived. This Robocop is a walking paperweight that can die by heavy artillery, grenade to the chest he is dead, electrocution he is dead or immobile. The music playing while murphy is shooting robots and hunting the one guy its not that its some other song crappy song. I expected a lot more but its a waste of time and money movie! I prefer the original 1987 Robocop than this paperweight screaming girl in black suit.
