Mysterious lawman rolls into town. A "Knight in Shining Armor", if you will. Has shootouts with all sorts of villainy from around town. Works his way up to the big bad. Big bad overwhelms lawman and our hero falls back to the outskirts of town to recuperate with their sidekick. Lawman returns to town for rematch. Rematch looks like it's about even, with a little more going to big bad. Big bad overwhelms lawman and at the last minute the lawman relies on cunning, skill, previously referenced plot device or some sort of contrived gimmick to beat big bad. Town is saved, but there is no rest for our hero as tomorrow will be another day. I think I just described "the hero's journey"
