It's interesting that your main complaint was bosses because that was the main draw for me. As someone who likes Soulsborne games, I immediately picked up on variety of builds based on weapons. They're very specific utility translates to killing certain bosses more easily. I liked the repetition in a PvP setting. Bosses arguably are meant to be memorized because it's not the guy who can summon a million skeletons that's the problem, it's the incredibly small rat with a tier 1 sword waiting to kill you with chaos bolts and rob you of everything. I would've never played V Rising if it wasn't for the PvE aspects working like this. I always hated survival sandbox games because I thought they were aimless, tedious farming simulators that had no real level design or curated experience (like in say, Elden Ring or something). It's why things like Valheim - even with bosses - felt so boring because of the grind to get there, rather than say, a curated experience where you're fighting through a handcrafted map that's meant to impose specific challenges against you before getting to the boss. Like in Quincy or further towards the endgame, all of Brighthaven. Never cared for the PvP aspect of sandboxes either, as it felt one-sided. Great review as it tells me what other people want from these sorts of games.

Further note: enemy variety makes a lot of sense for me, in contrast with your take on it. Fire damages vampires like the Sun does, so it makes sense that fire enemies are the most annoying. It forces the player to prioritize Deadeyes or Militia Lights. Especially if the enemy comp has a Cleric patrol rearing the corner to heal said archers. Enemies should pose a challenge to you when fighting a boss. It's like PoE or Diablo 2 lite, where part of the fun was prioritizing targets over doing damage to the boss and learning bullet patterns.

The funny thing is, everything you mention as being annoying can actually be influenced in the advanced settings of the server creation. You could tweak this game to cover all of those gripes. For example, increase your castle hearts, or teleport with materials, lots of QoL options in the advanced.

I think grinding is only fun for some people, and only when you do it like two times, so you have that feeling of mission acomplished. But every time a pvp server has a wipe, you need to do all the same stuff again, on the exact same order, all over again, with toxic hardcore 24/7 playing players on your back trying to steal your stuff, just to have to lose it all again in a few days. That is why everyone abandoned the game, PVE is nice, but it is a one time journey, you wont go trought the trouble of doing it all again just for the sake of doing it, and the PVP is an annoying and stressfull experience, running around the map with valuable stuff just to get killed or get your stuff stolen.

About the travelling part, u can easily go get infinite amounts of horses from the 2nd zone even when ur only lvl 1. wich makes the game pretty much speed runnable. use portals and build your base near a rock passage. OH and i absolutely love the game, but my biggest problem is that the servers get crowded when its full pop and nowhere to build and also every server dies within days making you commit hours to wake up next day to an empty server... =/

you left out some pretty important info in regards to traveling. You get a horse, which doubles your movement speed, and you get access to caves, and bat form, which makes traveling better
@m.r.r.26362 жыл бұрын
TBF the bat form and thus the full use of most caves is an endgame ability (EDIT: I Stand corrected, apparently not even the Bat form can access the caves on cliffs according to IGN, I haven't actually tested that). But the horse is definitely your primary travel tool. If only those pesky Riflemen wouldn't blow me off my saddle... On a related note to the cave systems and bat form; it really is a shame that the frog form is so... useless. Yay I can jump unroofed walls, meaning I can get easy access to low level players' castles... what fun - for me and them. You cannot even traverse the shortcuts in the back of the iron mines with the frog ability. Seems utterly wasteful.
@unwaveringdiscipline5489 Жыл бұрын
@@m.r.r.2636 dunno if you still play the game, frog is one of the most broken abilities by far. You can breach the castle then bat to move behind, frog to jumb on the back of their base and you can skip their whole def line. I don't entirely agree with this review. My opinion is that the combat is one of the most satisfying combat systems in any currently existing survival game and to add to that, the speed at which your character moves contributes to that. If you're struggling to enjoy moving around the map due to the speed, I usually enter the wolf form when running around early game which is the ability you gain from the first boss or run up to the Dunley Farmlands and get yourself a horse which significantly increases traversal speeds. Overall this is a great innovative survival game that's extremely polished compared to other survival games upon release. The game is beautiful, smooth to play and great with or without friends. 10/10 from my perspective.

Let's be real though. Vampyr was a pretty good game. Sure, tons of dialogue and less eating humans, and even less if you decided not to eat humans. It was honestly a pretty solid game, and the fact that you choose who you will become is a nice touch. Just because you're a vampire doesn't mean you have to be bad. V Rising though looks very nice, I'm hesitant still cause I'm scared it wont be like Diablo 3 which I enjoyed thoroughly until I stopped playing. Which is probably a good thing, but to me the whole Diablo deal is a nice aspect to a game. But it's not that much so I might just pick it up. Great video!

I'm liking the game but I'm quitting slowly bored because those exact reasons. The sunlight mechanic is just annoying and limiting and travelling times are ridiculous. I feel like I'm wasting my time rather than having fun, because, it's ok that it's grindy but if you limit too much when and how I can grind, it's just empty time waiting. For example, you die in a boss battle, your base is far away, you respawn at the nearest portal and if it's not the correct time of the day you just WAIT to the next afternoon doing nothing because you don't want to walk 20 minutes back to your castle, so you don't farm anything either. I have been so frustrated and bored with that loop that I feel lazy to "play" it more, even despite that the rest of the game is quite amazing

(gets hit by attack) Also you may be interested to know that a lot of the things you say you didn't enjoy actually have super easy solutions that you just maybe didn't discover yet. Travel is annoying and slow? You can go from one side of the entire map to the other with a horse and wranglers potion in about 3 minutes. I'm honestly not sure making travel any faster would be a good thing, it wouldn't make sense to just zip from one side to the other in a minute. It would make the world feel small. Also there are teleporters you can get for your BASE, and cave passages. So you can build your base near a cave, then teleport out to the map, collect resources, and take the cave passage back and be right back near your base. The combat: I'm honestly flabbergasted that anyone can dislike this combat. It's one of the most slick combat systems of any game I've ever played. I think the combat system makes this game, and I can't wait to see SL studios flesh that out more. Keep in mind, the game isn't at version 1.0 yet. It's still not a finished game. A bit of an update 2 years later: moving a castle is way easier now. You can set a 'moving-pylon' at your new location and link it up with the castle you want to move. Then you can move all assets existing to the new place, including their inventories. You only have to set down a few key things and any unused things get sent to a collect_only moving pack in their base materials. You can move a place in about 10-15 minutes. I generally only travel by horse in the game. It's alot faster than anything else and you'e through the map in a very reasonable time. You're alos often too fast for enemies to properly lock on to you, which is often a problem in wolf-form. Otherwhise it's still pretty much the same game. They added some more areas, bosses etc and juggled some abilities around. As far as i remember the weaver lady in early second area used to give the human-transformation. Now it's a boss 10 level higher. They also reworked the traders (thank gods) and they now have designated spots on the map with roughly 4 traders with rotating stocks. No more running around the map like a headless chicken and then realising you accidentally curbstomped the trader you meant to trade with while smashing Tristans head in for the nth time.

Yo, just a heads up, experienced players have no issues with traveling. If you know all the cave locations, and if you build a teleporter in your base, you can easily teleport next to anywhere you need to go, and then use caves to get back to your base quickly with resources. You can teleport with horses, and then ride them back, using the caves as needed as well. Trust me, traveling in this game actually needs a NERF, it is part of the reason servers die in like a day, because experienced players can finish the game that quickly using these tricks. Edit: east farbane is the most OP base location for speedrunning the game.
@wrenix93622 жыл бұрын
I've got a castle at the East side of the starting zone with all the cave exit points leading to it which works out to be beneficial since I built my own waygate so not only is it easier to move round and cut valuable minutes off your travel but combined with the cave system that allows you to bring back loot I can probably turn a 30 minute job into a 7 minute job.

I think that the game wants to push you to move especially because most base locations in Farbane woods are small and cramped. You can't expand your base. The second is that to even get to a lot of the boss you have to go through countless enemies first and a lot of the enemies you fight can summon enemies of their own. Then you have to fight multiples enemies who do insane damage all while your fingers get knotted up trying to remember which key is which, lol. That you can can't/barely heal while fighting too is also annoying AF.

Everything you’re saying about traveling, sounds like you didn’t play into any of the systems that the game provides for you. Yes the game could be better at showing how to utilize Cave Passages, and the personal gateway, but you don’t have to play for long to discover them on your own eventually. The further you progress in the game, the further away you have to travel on your adventures, but at the same time the game introduces new and better traveling methods. In tier 1 you will most likely obtain the wolf form, and you will have the abilities to utilize the waygates you discover. By the end of tier 1 you can unlock the ability to build your own waygate, by defeating the feywalker, making the waygate network accesible from home base. In tier2 you will find yourself mostly in Dunley Farmlands, where you will most imoortantly notice horses everywhere. You now have the ability to use the waygate from you base, to teleport out, and ride your horde home. In dunley you will also have acces to the first cave passage entry, which has an exit in the middle of farbane, allowing you to effectively tp out with waygate, and tp home through the cave. In tier3 you will have even more cave passage options, silverlight also has horses, and as the cherry on top you can unlock the batform, by killing Styx, which allows you to literally fly across the map. Important note: you can bring horses through waygate and caves. You can even bring seduced enemies through caves. As you reach the late game, you might very likely also have unlocked wrangler potion, for increased horse speed, or have a prisoner with high quality worker blood, for increased horse speed. I personally think the traveling in this game is amazing. There are plenty of options, but not to a point where you teleport whereever you want, whenever you want. This in my opinion is what makes it interesting to pick a good spot for your base. I do However agree, that the game is a little lazy at educating the player on these travleling systems. Edit: Sorry for errors, types this on my phone with a non-english dictionairy activated ❤️

Doubt he knew this. When he refers to annoying enemies at the "top" he mentions dunley and cursed Forrest enemies. Not light weavers, riflemen, or anything In bright haven. Prolly didn't get past t2, just made a review on the game of the month for views.

@@PsychoPatrickFTW what? How's that edgy? Pointing out someone who obviously hasn't been to the last 1/3rd of the game and making a review about said game is bad? That's edgy? You can't properly review a game you haven't played all the way through. Explain what's edgy, thx.

because it has to in pvp servers, or there is 0 risk. He did forget to mention there is cave passages that are not limited by this on base settings. And what he did show but somehow didnt talk about is how you can teleport on a horse- making the way back not a chore the way he made it to be.

ngl the when I heard the word “wipe” I was turned off of the idea of playing the game it just doesn’t seem like the type of game that should have a wipe to me especially if everything stays the same every time.

wipes are not mandatory btw he forgot to mention that, but it definitely needs it in pvp

Is the game worth playing without building a castle? I don't have enough time to deal with the castle decay. That's probably the reason why I'm gonna have to refund the game, unless there's a way to not play for a month and still not lose the castle.

I hate being able to siege bases in these games. I usually love pvp but I'd like to actively play it instead of "oh, did you go to work today? sucks to be you, build a new base."
@Sharlenwar2 жыл бұрын
You should have prefaced the video with the fact that it's an "Early Access" title. So thus the game will most certainly change with improvements as time moves along. :)

Traversing the map is annoying at first but after you get a horse....oh i really love my horse.Shame is beige and white and ruins the gothic jam..... but every single black horse i get is slow AF.... dont know if its intentional or just RNG playing a prank on me...... The Map is Beautifull
@doraiaky9182 жыл бұрын
You either only played 5 hours or you're being negative for views... 1. You can have multiple castles 2. You can get several sun resistance items 3. There's literally teleporters around the map and horses that move at the speed of sound 4. The combat isn't annoying in any way, except for fire archers, it has amazing variety and makes you feel like an actual vampire with all the awesome things you can do, and the downsides (being able to execute mobs by ripping out their blood vs standing in the shade during the day) If you are baiting people that actually played this game to comment on your video, congratz..

The one thing I hate about combat is how long my dodge cooldown is compared to bosses especially when they spam aoes/knock backs etc ,even with cooldown reduction gear

What really rubbed me the wrong way about this game is that the developers took every attack animation of their previous game (that i loved) and they abandoned and neglected that game and just copy pasted those animations onto this game. Feels like a total middle finger to fans of their previous game. they're just into it for the short term with every game it feels like because they done this before.

Was playing solo, about 30-40 hours in I hit a wall where i couldnt solo any of the bosses I desperately needed to up my gear score, ended up gettin frustrated bouncing between the spider queen and big ol frog and just said F it and quit [Edit] another aspect that could have helped me that I knew about was potions, I didnt make any. Why? I didnt know any recipes for them. Why? I spent 10 hours trying to grind scrolls and got none of the recipes I needed. Random reaserch sucks.
